Okay Chris I'm going to suggest a solution that I haven't actually tested out yet but am planning on trying. I'm planning on shooting some puppet videos. We have puppeteers that come in a wide range of heights as well. The larger problem I'm facing though (no pun intended) is the limited ceiling...
Holy Fleece and Foam! Yes, I regularly visit the Project Puppet site and saw the contest. Took me a week or so to come up with a character and design I like, but I've got one. So now it's time to get started....to the Puppet Cave!
I almost always have something playing in the background while I'm working. Sometimes I'll go with a directly inspirational piece (like Muppets From Space for zaniness) but usually it's just something to create some background noise. I will usually pick something that I really enjoy, is at least...
Yeah, me too. As I recall the gym bag I made fell apart the first time I used it. I am doing much better now though! Time, experience and motivation are all contributing factors. I think I might have done a lot better back then if I had been making a puppet instead of a stupid gym bag!
Oh I think you can Chris. It just requires a whole bunch of learning and practice. Lots, and lots of practice. If you haven't already checked these out here are a couple of collections of free tutorial videos that can really start you off down the right path.
Paul Louis has a whole bunch of...
Cookie I understand the long road. I've been working on my stuff on and off for a good 4 or 5 years now. Even working more steadily since I lost my "day job" in April I've only got 3 puppets to show for my efforts. Ah if only there was a way to summon some help....WAIT!
Puppeteers Assemble!
:D
Well Chris not to wear out the Walt quotes but...
"If you can dream it you can do it."
What can I say? I'm a former Disney Cast Member. But yeah, I don't rule anything out. That's one of the beauties of this web connection we all share is we never know where this networking will take us...
And maybe that cartooning thing isn't so unusual among us puppet people after all. I got my degree in art back in 86 and tried both comic books and a comic strip! Didn't stick with either for very long as I was trying to raise and support a family. Now that the kids are all up and grown though I...
I would like to add my voice to the chorus of folks in their 40's (I'm 49) who have reconnected with their passion for puppetry. And I agree with Cookie about the idea of all quitting our day jobs and getting our heads together!
As for my part in that scheme my job sort of quit me back in...
Hey Paul! Thanks so much for all that you've done and continue to do to help further the art of puppetry! I've used and recommended your videos many, many times and I WILL be ordering a copy of your e-book, hopefully today.:D
I look forward to the additional info you have to share and again...
Well I'm sort of in Gordon's camp I guess. Though WAAAAAAY behind him. I'm working on a puppet video production but am in the very early stages. I have spent over 25 years in retail management. More than half of that time was spent running independent businesses that I owned solely or in...
Yup you get to make the neck bits on your own. They do however give you the dimensions and a small diagram to indicate their shape. I believe you'll find the dimensions for the upper and lower neck patterns as well as the arm patterns under Step 3.
You just want to be sure to follow the...
I'll second that request for more info. I think many here might be interested in another supplier. So I for sure would appreciate any pricing/ordering info you might be willing to share.
I make my own control rods. As with much of my puppet crafting I use an amalgamation of different techniques I've seen used. The end result is basically a metal rod with a wooden handle that has been coated with Tool Dip to give it a nice finish.
I know what you mean about being nervous. I am...
Well, those represent my third and fourth efforts, but I've done a TON of reading both online and of books and things I've ordered online. It should also be noted that those 2 puppets were made using patterns from Project Puppet. An outstanding resource! Feel free to drop me a line anytime if...
Thanks for the compliment! I was happy to be able to offer any info. I'm always excited when I can answer anything with my relatively minimal experience. :D
