Sam and Friends Book Read our review of the long-awaited book, "Sam and Friends - The Story of Jim Henson's First Television Show" by Muppet Historian Craig Shemin.
Our society in general is in the dumpster. Comedies like "Epic Movie" and "Scary Movie IV" are all about pushing the boundaries of taste... but since everyone is so depraved, there are no boundries left to push. I like dirty humor, but not when there's nothing intellectual to hold it up...
As previously mentioned, the whole "3D" thing is starting to get on my nerves. As long as this film does not trade authentic Hensonian wonder for special effects, I look forward to it. But the film market trends bode ill.
Precisely. It's about Leary taking Hicks' PERSONA, watering it down to a one-dimensional cartoon character, and making the material acceptable for the masses.
I don't know. I dislike Denis Leary, for the reasons previously mentioned (it's ignorant to assume that every comedian 'has ripped off someone' at some point...), and for the fact that Leary isn't funny at all.
I am a fan of tasteless humor. But Leary was tasteless just to make headlines. His...
I felt moved not because the screenplay was well written; it's because I love who Jim Henson was and what he stood for. For me, I'm predisposed to feel sorrow whenever I hear anything about Jim Henson's death, because it was so unnecessary.
I'm not against the death being in there. But, it does NOT have to be so graphic. It was dramatic enough in real life without an over-weight Kermit singing "I'm Going To Go Back There Someday."
The dialogue is pretty bad too.

Oh Joan. That’s fantastic.
Congratulations.
JOAN
And... the best part... drum
roll... I just got off the phone
to Ed... we got four Emmy noms.
JIM
You’re joking me!
I can’t believe that!
JOAN holds up the VARIETY page with Emmy nominations...
Yeah, I agree. I mean, this is just my opinion on the script. I'm not a professional or anything... just as a fan, and a wannabe filmmaker/screenwriter. :P Mr. Henson was a very, very complex man, and I think it'd be extremely difficult to make a film about him. I just would've liked to see a...
I just got the script. It's... interesting so far. I'm not sure what to think at this point. It's depressing.
Edit:
Okay. Wow. That was... that was just bad. I really wanted to like it. It has some GREAT ideas. But the dialogue is pretty hackneyed in a lot of places... Comes off less...
Well, here's one fan's reaction to the screenplay... Doesn't sound that promising. :/

Interesting idea. Not sure if I like it yet... I mean, wasn't Mr. Henson all about distancing himself from the Muppets towards the end of his life? He wanted to branch off to other things, and not to be typecasted as Kermit the Frog.
Don't know if you guys saw this...

Mr. Henson, back in 1969, on Iowa Public Television. I know this isn't "professional" puppet-making, but it's certainly a nice starting point for those who have never made puppets before.
