And THIS is what Frank Oz actually said:
I agree with this entirely. Especially the last bit.
"I wish people would get around to appreciating the performers beneath the Muppets."
Jesus, whenever someone comes along who doesn't vomit rainbows, a faction of the Muppet fans dismiss them as "jaded."
Oz is acerbic, witty, and has a dark sense of humor. He's not jaded. He's a realist. He has a point, although I don't entirely agree with it. The biggest problem I had with...

Starting at 5:53. Really funny little bit. He talks about how he would forget they were humans, how Miss Piggy was interested in him, and so forth.
No, I agree Whitmire has done an AMAZING job with Kermit. Big flippers to fill, if you'll pardon the expression. And I have no problem with a depressed Kermit. Makes him a well-rounded, full-blooded character. It's more about the writing of Kermit as an inspirational speaker, rather than a...
I will say that, regardless of how amazing Steve Whitmire is as a performer, the writers have never really "gotten" Kermit's personality down post-Henson. He has turned into a nice, kind of bland, innocent, friendly frog who helps everyone with their problems. Kind of an Arnold from HEY ARNOLD...
Bowie is basically a shut-in these days. Connelly talked about Labyrinth recently on a talk show, and it wasn't anything negative. I've never read a derogatory statement from Bowie or Connelly about the film, although they probably view it like it is: early work from younger versions of...
I don't really blame Sesame Street for the problem, as much as I blame the shift in society towards coddling children, and keeping everything politically correct. That's when the show took a dive, because the writers/show runners are catering towards this new generation of soft children.
You could always visit the old Henson Associates building. I went up there a few weeks ago, just to see how it's looking. They're completely renovating it - I think someone else bought it. It was sad to see it out of the Henson family, but really cool to see where a lot of the magic happened...
Well, I just remember reading "Street Gang," where the Muppet performers referred to working for Disney as working in "Mousekavitz." The Muppet performers are used to working in a fun environment; Disney is fully a corporate entity, time is money, so on and so forth. That might be where the rub is.
Avatar doesn't deserve to be uttered in the same paragraph as The Dark Crystal. James Cameron's name shouldn't even be spat out in the same page as Jim Henson's name.
Well, Sorta-interview. More of a Q&A with Puppets.
Given that we're coming up on the 22nd year without Mr. Henson, I decided to upload this video I've had in my collection. I'm sure you other Muppet nerds have seen this/own it, but I thought I'd put it up.
More to come. I'm in finals at...
Post-Dark Crystal.
I love this. Usually, when we get an interview with Jim Henson, it's edited. This is straight-through, with opening and closing bits. It's so strange. Surreal. Especially the last bit, after the interview, where he's just talking.
