Sam and Friends Book Read our review of the long-awaited book, "Sam and Friends - The Story of Jim Henson's First Television Show" by Muppet Historian Craig Shemin.
Most shows have baby characters played by twins, due to child labor laws. But the baby usually isn't the main character, and there's not much for it to do. Can;t they just do a few important scenes with one baby? Don't know if that makes a difference on live-audience shows. Or do child labor...
Muppet Wiki now lists the production order for the show (based on personal correspondence with The Jim Henson Company):
Videotape/The True Bride
Food/The Three Ravens
Garbage/Sapsorrow
Dog City
First Show/Miss Piggy's Hollywood
Outer Space/The Heartless Giant
Fitness/Song of the Cloud Forest...
Well, it's supposed to be out today. Does anybody have a copy yet?
I probably won't be able to find a copy for a few weeks (I know, I should have ordered), but it feels like Christmas morning, just waiting to know what all's in the book and how good/bad/surprising/disappointing it is.
Yeah, those document pages list those productions among the Muppet Film and TV Library that Disney got the rights to (as well as Muppet Meeting Films, Little Muppet Monsters, and Muppet Time, but I don't expect any characters created for those to be included). Also, henson.com has a Muppets...
Actually, Disney does own the rights to Hey Cinderella, The Frog Prince, The muppet Musicians of Bremen, Tale of the Bunny Picnic, and Mr. Willoby's Christmas Tree.
It's also interesting how when talking about Saturday Night Live, Frank oz speculated the problem with the sketches was Vash's first performer, throwing the timing off from the other performers. Rhonda Hansen only performed Vash in the first sketch, and she wasn't really in that much of the...
Looking at these sample pages, it looks like these might not include characters who were more-or-less exclusive to the Tales from Muppetland specials. Looking at the two-page spread with Cactus Quartet and Camilla, it's obvious the book won't include Caleb Siles. I'd be surprised if the other...
Well the Muppets don't have canon, so it probably doesn't matter. But it would be interesting if any new facts come up in future projects (I don't really expect any new info on the long-time main characters like Kermit or Miss Piggy, they already have plenty of existing info that can be included).
It says that the reason Kermit only had a small part in Sex and Violence is because Jim Henson was considering not performing on the show, or not performing often, but then he performed Nigel in that special, in addition to many other characters. I don't quite understand why he would perform the...
When the Muppets appeared on Saturday Night Live, why did the announcer have to list the performers? Couldn't the performers names just be listed in the end credits, as opposed to announced? In fact why doesn't Saturday Night Live (and most variety/talk shows) list guests in the end credits? It...
Well, the book comes out in just a few days. I hope that a review comes out before the book is released. Don't know if Tough Pigs or The Muppet Mindset or even Muppet Central will get (or has gotten) an early copy to review, but that would be nice (and I expect both sites to give a great review...
I've seen images from some of the Atari Sesame Street games which have copyrights for both Muppets, Inc. and Henson Associates.
And also, it seems like the book says that the company changed it's name to Jim Henson Productions after Jim Henson decided to sell to Disney, which was after The...
I just saw another Toyota commercial, walked into the room after it had started.... Not sure if it's been noted, but this one had Crazy Harry, setting off an explosion in the car which blasted Gonzo through the roof.
There is one other thing I wish Disney would do better: get more Muppet merchandise available in stores other than The Disney Stores. Yes, fans can order online, and there is a Disney Store near where I live (but it's in a town I don't drive to often), and the merchandise I'm most excited about...
The two-week deadline is nothing compared to what Fozzie's thought when they arrived in New York: he said that they'd "all be on Broadway tomorrow". Maybe he meant they'd officially have a deal to be on Broadway, though, as opposed to the show opening the next day.
I'd say the only thing Disney hasn't done right this year (so far) is release the fourth season of The Muppet Show, in addition to other non-movie Muppet productions on DVD. At least half(half-ish?) of the movies have recently aired on ABC Family, when most of the movies have barely aired in the...
Looking at the "Gonzo's Great Acts" page, it seems like his motorcycle act is the only actual act represented, with the others pictured not coming from any actual productions. Why not acknowledge/picture his tire-eating. cannonball-catching, piano-balancing, or hypnotism acts? But maybe those...
How far in advance to the next TV season do you suppose is the best time to pitch a show to the networks? How far in advance so you have more time for casting and developing (even if you've already developed the show in your head for years, but I guess any creator could use more development time...
