Your Thoughts: The Muppet Show Comic Book

If anyone is interested, here's the review I wrote of Muppet Show #1 for the website I write for. I was really impressed. I hope the rest of the series lives up to this first issue.

Your Thoughts: The Muppet Show Comic Book

Try mycomicshop.com or milehighcomics.com. Both good services. For those of you looking for the comic outside of comic shops, it sounds like Barnes & Noble is going to get it first. Here's an interview with Boom! Studios about the distribution deal...

Disney greenlights "The Muppet Show" comics

Now here's serendipity for you. Boom! announced TODAY that they've signed a newsstand distribution deal for the Disney/Muppet comics: http://www.newsarama.com/comics/030925-Boom-Newsstand.html

Unfortunately, that probably won't happen. The street date for a comic book release refers to the day it goes to the direct market (i.e., comic book shops and online retailers). It won't show up in bookstores and on newstands for another 2-3 weeks. And that's assuming that it even goes to...

What was the last Henson thing you bought?

Picked up Kermit's Before You Leap today. Can't wait to read it.

I don't think anyone sees anything wrong with it. I certainly think it's great. But for the sake of legality, I do think it's there more as an "homage" than as an "official" appearance.

The "What will you do tomorrow" thread.

Tomorrow during the day I'm taking my girlfriend to the Aquarium of the Americas in New Orleans. Tomorrow night, we're going to my cousin's first Lenten Friday Night Seafood Feast of 2009. He does 'em every year -- sometimes it's a crawfish boil, sometimes it's shrimp, sometimes it's crabs...

Don't know about the BOOM website, but the books are carried in comic stores nationwide. It's one of the more reliable smaller publishers. It would be worth it to call the shop in your area and ask if they'll be carrying them. Most shops will even reserve copies for you if you ask.

    Muppet Babies DVD Box Sets

Oh, don't misunderstand -- if it were a choice between The Muppet Show and Muppet Babies, I'd take the classic any time. But eventually, I'd like to have the MBs too.

Whoa, Dave Alvarez? The guy who does the Yenny comic strip? Love your stuff, man. I hope to see more Muppet work from you in the future! :)

I have to agree -- I'd love to see it, but I doubt we will.

The MuppetCast - Show #93 - Monster Maker

Does Disney own the whole thing, though? I thought the Henson company retained the rights to the "Storyteller" segments... I'd love to see a DVD release too, naturally. I'm just curious as to what the logistics of such a thing would be.

CG Tom & Jerry, Yogi Bear & Jetsons?

Ugh. I can't think of a classic cartoon character that I've liked in CG. Has anyone seen those 3-D Disney cartoons? Mickey Mouse's head in three dimensions is just BIZARRE.

I like the little tidbit we get here about future Muppet comics -- Muppet Robin Hood and Muppet Peter Pan. Sounds like Boom! is planning to continue with the Muppets-in-Literature subgenre.

Comic sales have actually been on the rise in the last 10 or so years, after the industry began to recover from the near-implosion of the 90s speculator market. It still hasn't risen to 80s numbers, or even early 90s, but it's growing. Or at least it WAS... this pricing stunt could be the capper.

Really? I was listening to the Around Comics podcast a few days ago and they were talking about how many comic shops they have in Chicago... then again, that's probably in the city itself, not in the suburbs.
