And I hope you care just as much now when other religions continue to practice of stoning in modern times. As opposed to religions that haven't practiced it for thousands of years.
But we're only supposed to criticize one particular religion here, right?
I'm not trying to be hostile, just...
True, but would you rather they ignored or white washed history? Would you rather they still agreed with those portions? Every culture keeps (or should keep) a record of its past, even its less than positive moments. Christianity is not weird in this way.
So is Tolkein's Lord of the Rings...
Um OK, you guys may say I'm making excuses again. In this case, I don't care, lol. The Bible does have some instances where women are the corrupt ones. The book was written thousands of years ago and by men. So it's no surprise. However Jesus makes it clear that he has respect for women and they...
Hi, sorry I took so long to reply, something came up. I'm glad what I said made sense, lol. Yeah there definitely more blending than people realize.
I'm glad we were able to talk this out somewhat. :)
I'll try to express this the best way I can. In this issue, I am your ally. I have no problem with gay marriage. But I am also a Christian and of course I'm going to come to its defense at times. Honestly, I feel a little like a child in the middle of a divorce, trying to deal with divided...
And I feel I do that in my personal life, and so many other Christians I know. But those people aren't being talked about here. It's all about the ones who screw up.
I wouldn't do that. Believe it or not, I do believe in live and let live. ;) If people want to critcize one group, that's their...
If that's the point of the thread, to rant against one group, then I personally can't keep going with the conversation. I don't mind if everyone else does, that's their right. And I respect everyone here. But there's really nothing more I can say if the thread has these kinds of parameters...
From my perspective, the reason it keeps going around is because you tend to only talk about Christians and what they do wrong. I would be more than willing to criticize Christianity if I thought every other religion and secular group was going to get equal criticism. I want it to be fair...
So even though every religion (and secular group) has its share of dangerous fanatics, we're only going to criticize one of them? Sorry but that's my problem with all this.
Still frogboy, we're somewhat going in circles. You say you think a lot of Christians are a certain way, I point out that such a description could apply to anyone not just Christians, and you say I'm making excuses. ;)
I get what you're saying, definitely. And like you and I both said, there's a danger in getting too bogged down into words and meanings.
I guess the concern some people have is the idea of God wanting the attention drawn to him first. The way I look at it, God's many concerned with how we try...
Well no offence intended at all, but that's the point. I was always taught that such teaching was too harsh and in fact not in line with what Jesus was really getting at. Jesus was happy when people actively forgave and show compassion for others. He wasn't satisifed with people simply saying...
Well there are a couple of Disco songs I like. But then there are others that just feel overbearing to me and I guess that includes the Cookie Monster songs, lol.
Well I'm not a Country music fan myself but my Grandma loves it so I can't say anything bad, hehe.
But the thing is, if all we have to do is say "I've decided that I believe in Jesus" then why do we even have to do good works? Why did Jesus spend his entire ministry instructing people on the good works they had to do? Why didn't he just say "All you have to do is worship me?"
Yes, he was...
Perhaps they aren't anticipating a high demand. It's not like Disney or Henson has been giving the newer generations much reason to like the Muppets before. They put all their attention into new projects without giving the young audience any sense of the history. And then when they get no...
