Still I think that's the typical diplomatic PR statement that everyone would see through. It's refreshing to me when public figures are honest. Honesty shouldn't mean you're the bad guy. ;)
The difference is the Rowlf joke humorously implies something. The joke in this new movie just throws a cheap laugh at you.

In the case of this new movie, someone did not know how to tell it. ;)...
That happens sometimes, but just as often fans do know what they're talking about. And changes made to characters very often aren't slight and they aren't true to the characters. Fans have seen this time and again and they aren't overreacting. They simply recognize when something's been tampered...
Lol, well you know how it is, you're panic and under pressure, you try to think of any fantasy character you can....and then you realize you completely forgot about the question, lol.
My only concern is I don't want to imply to kids that they would only identify with the "new" projects. Assume they couldn't appreciate the Muppets any other way. That's the last message I want to send them.

Well if it was done at the beginning that would be fine. But I guess it's the interfereing with people's nostalgia and memories that rubs me the wrong way.
But ultimately I guess it depends on the situation and your own preferences. :)
I do get what you're saying and there are times when it's nice to have a character's name changed back to what it should be, regarding its origins.
I just don't love companies taking it upon themselves to change something about a character just because they've decided it makes more sense. It...
