    How to operate a muppet...

That's true - the rules of puppetry are generally set by whoever's doing it at the time; most puppeteers I know are self-taught, which means that everybody has their own way of getting the same result. It's one reason I don't think it's a good idea to take courses in puppetry; it's much better...

    How to operate a muppet...

I gave up puppeteering profesionally almost ten years ago. I actually started in the Bil Baird side (read:marionettes and wood rod puppets) A puppeteer named Nik Swindin was a great mentor to me, and now that he's passed on I miss him terribly. I learned Henson-style puppets at a later job...

    foam questions

A good way to get cheap foam is to buy a cheap foam mattress cover. It has those weird waffle shapes, but you can either trim those off with an electric knife, or just use the flat side & squish that part up with contact cement.

    How to operate a muppet...

This is fun Haven't seen this perspective for a while. My old mentor always used to chuckle and say "puppet magic!" The mikes are taped or strapped to headgear because puppetry if they were on a headset (like the ones in RENT,) you'd hear all the heavy breathing that puppeteers try so hard...

    Songs of Joe Raposo

Didn't he sing "Skin" and the one about animal babies "Cats have kittens, doggies have pups..." ?

Ernie's Shirt & Other Clothing Questions

OK, I know this is a little esoteric - but I remember the purple/orange shirt, too. My question is - when did they get the funky PJs? I don't remember if the pajamas were different in my day, but I vaguely remember stripes there, too. Am I crazy?

    Favourite Sesame Street Character

I'm with Cookiefan and Marty Feldman The big C is and always was my favorite - my two-year-old's, too. One of our favorite vids is "Cookie Monster's Best Bites," and our family saying is "Cookies done yet?" Maybe I should change my signature. Maybe I will...

"Death to Smoochy" vs "Being John Malkovich"

Just wondering if any other puppeteers (or puppet groupies) had the same reactions I did to these movies. At the insistence of many of my friends, I rented "Being John Malkovich," which everybody referred me to for two reasons: I once was a puppeteer, and many of my friends work for...

New series, Animal Jam debuts February 24

OK, just saw it... And I have to say, I agree verbatim with the reviewer. The unfortunate thing is, if they followed his advice, it would be a really terrific show. Bizarrely enough, I was also instantly reminded of "Death to Smoochy!" The choreography is terrific, very simple and easy to...

New series, Animal Jam debuts February 24

Well written review article! Didn't even know about this series; until the new season of SS comes out, it's been Wiggles every day (sigh, pull hair out) When I first saw the review, I was hoping that this would be a replacement for the Wiggles, whom I don't particularly enjoy (I agree...

    Unpaved disappointment

Funny; I always thought they were two brothers. My brother and I are about equally different, in ways very similar to B&E

Monster Time: Monster Clubhouse and Monster Moments

Interesting - my son (now 2 1/2) always hated Monster Clubhouse, (except for the aforementioned honk your nose song) as did his little friend - and he loves the classic monster sketches, especially Super Grover. He does, however, like the JTE animation, which I don't particularly like.

Monster Time: Monster Clubhouse and Monster Moments

Actually, Super Grover has made several appearances on Elmo's World (though they are clearly new skits,) one on the episode about family, where you get to meet his mother during the fainting bit, and one, I think, on the episode about bicycles ('nuff said) I miss Monsterpiece Theatre the...

    Elmo's world "Jingle Bells" controversy

Hey, at least y'all can spell controversey (anyway, it looks more right to me than the way I wrote it!) And I have a degree in English! The nuns would faint!

    Sesame Street Quick Fix...

I guess I would agree that more skits would be better, but those bits don't take up that much of the "new" SS - they're only on a few episodes. Though one of my favorite things about Sesame Street, now and in the past, is that it's populated with actual kids, not kid actors. They can't...

    Elmo's world "Jingle Bells" controversy

I'm guessing because the tune is one almost everybody knows, and it's easy to learn, as it's almost all one note.

Who sings "I Don't Want to Live on the Moon"?

I am curious about who's doing Ernie in most of those lovely ballads! The Aaron Neville version doesn't seem to be out there anywhere; I've been looking for it for a while. It's my personal fave - it played (with Ernie, so I've laid eyes on him singing it!) this season on SS. So if anybody...

    "Happy Birthday" rights

I've always appreciated that Sesame Street wasn't cheap and paid for the rights to that song; I really hate it when TV shows, restaurant chains, and movies try to make up their own. It's become an American ritual. The Elmo's World Birthday show, although it sang the "Birthday Song" to the tune...
