Hollywood Minute...
The word is that the author loves it and the studio wants to ruin it with CGI and make it more likeable... I'm just learning about this project and seeing the leak. It looks wonderful as is. So, today my friend called who works for the studio and says hey you are a Henson...
Well, Piggy as made by Bear Man couldn't have long blonde hair, extra large bossoms, high heels, a tight dress and a sexy attitude or even be a pig for that matter because those are all sexist stereotypes. :wisdom:
You have got to be kidding me? Henson drew so many generalizations to hysterical results. That is a big part of comedy and drawing characters for entertainment. Think of the lobster banditos or the swedish chef or Sam the eagle... Those are all characters based on stereotypes but...
Bear Man where is your sense of humor? I used the phrase "Can It" because it is something Miss Piggy would say... "Can it flipper face!" I was trying to be subtle and funny as Henson would.
It may be somewhat of a generalization but, I stand by my "opinion" that she would appeal to those...
She's the sleeper hit in the lineup. Why? Every gay guy, drag queen, lesbian, & etc. will plunk down their credit cards if she looks right. They're not so into cheap plastic toys but a replica... Different story. Just my 2 cents.
Oh can it Bear - Palisades made 3 craptastick versions of piggy. You can't go on their figures - it's a 5 dollar toy for the mass market. This is a different market is what we are saying.
This one's for you Blinky...
That's the spirit KermiUK!
Oh and Blinkyfish - check wikipedia Miss Piggy - perhaps your financials aren't all there:
Frank Oz has said that while Fozzie Bear is a two-dimensional character, and Animal has no dimensions; Miss Piggy is one of the few Muppets to be...
Well, I don't know the financials but, you have to admit she is a central character and to leave her out of this lineup would be insane. Mistersuperstar is right - this is different than cheap toys on any toystore shelf. Different market.
Also, i'd do Rowlf before Floyd and Link. Wasn't...
Um...
Supercali... your statement seems rather naive. Miss Piggy is beloved by casual muppet fans as well as the hardcores.
Frogboy - I like your picks and agree in both categories.
That Empire company looks like a dud to me - this would be my biggest concern. If someone or some business of credibility were behind the project then it might be exciting.
It is a PR thing totally - they may have acquired the rights to a screenplay but in no way have they acquired the...
Tom Hanks...
is one of the most overrated actors that has ever lived... He's also a dinosaur!
I'll say it again CHRISTIAN BALE... along with being one of the best actors going he would go from young Jim to older Jim perfectly. Also, since he is so huge in big budget his team is itching to...
Kermit arrives!
I held out until the very end to start my MR collection. Kermit came by UPS at work here today and I can't believe how great he is. What an exciting way to start the weekend yayyyyyyyyyyy!
PS. He's number 1953 of 2500. Isn't 1953 right around the year that Henson started...
Ps
In regards to the mention of Penny Marshall directing... I know people who have worked with her and claim that she is the worst director going. She has people set up the shots and scenes for her and generally isn't a very good director. (Hope she's not reading this!)
Christian Bale = BATMAN, The Machinist, 3:10 to Yuma, American Psycho, The new Terminator... on and on - They could make him look just like Henson.
Well, everything is about Buzz in Hollywood and generally press releases of that nature are to generate some kind of interest. It's too early to...
What to say... I suppose everything is still in the speculation stage at this point but, might I remind you that if they have a working script and a budget of 30 mil - that film could be made. It's not a lot of money but think about a film like "Juno" was made for under 10. It could happen...
Jamie
Plastic nose aside - which was too expensive and not feasible as we were told, don't you think a more muppety texture on the nose would have been more desirable to the market?
They totally dropped the ball on this one, I agree. This whole venture cannot be hinged on one muppet though...
We appreciate the humbleness Travis - you wear it well! But, here in Los Angeles, the city of industry, everything revolves around the bottom line. If the studios see a falter in profit the venture is gone. I simply don't want to see that happen.
This glass of wine is the best - many best...
All criticisms aside...
Everyone should support this line and purchase Gonzo straight away as the snub of any one of them could result in the end of the venture. It's an investment in the future of the line and Travis' much welcomed aesthetic and dedication.
I, for one, almost cried when I...
Us Californians must think alike? That is exactly what I was trying to say - that the fleece look would have been more muppety. My preliminary search was inconclusive but, never fear there is miles of fabric left for me to look at on Monday. You could have a professional "re-cover" that nose...
