I love to use Plastic Ice cream pales, cut them and there very flexible and there cheap and pretty easy to obtain. I got that from Terry Angus.

syntheicit Feathers, um you'll have to ask others. But at tony hill it's sold by the Foot for like $4 multipul colors and various lenghts from 1 inch to 6 inches. i love to use the long feathers Fringe for hair and I have use it on several puppets and have not been disappointed...
