    Elmo's World-free episodes don't go over

Elmo's World is a standalone show in every other country that broadcasts it, if I recall correctly; it's only the American version that gets "bundled" with Sesame Street. I'm no expert on children's TV, but I suspect that happened because the foreign Sesame productions (when they exist) are...

    International skits on Youtube...

Ooops, I think you linked to "Take a Breath" twice by mistake. Could you please post the correct link to the other song? I'd appreciate that a lot...

    International skits on Youtube...

I don't speak Hebrew myself, but the way the translators redid those cultural references in the lyrics amazed me. (If you ever saw the Spanish/English original, you know that it's so full of Mexican imagery that adapting the song to any other language and culture seems impossible.)

    Elmo's World-free episodes don't go over

*nods* I miss the days when Elmo was one of the gang, not the show's mascot. Seeing him interact with older Muppets as an equal is pretty rare these days; when it does happen, the writers at Sesame Workshop deserve a little extra credit from us fans.

    Elmo's World-free episodes don't go over

Elmo was still popular with kids, and taught them a whole lot more, when he didn't get his own predictable mini-show. The character isn't as bad as I make him sound sometimes, but 90% of Elmo's World is fluff; the other 10% teaches things a 3-year-old could learn first-hand from real life.

    Question about Miss Piggy Smilie

Because Miss Piggy is a very hot-tempered character--especially when someone insults women, pigs, or her "Kermie". :) The mad face could have gone to Oscar here, true; but who would we use for grouchiness then?

    Oscar acting out of Character?

Oscar does keep his less-grouchy side a secret, and he's usually picky about who gets to see it. He shows obvious affection for Slimey in some of the Trash Gordon endings, but tells the audience "You didn't see that..." at the same time. Thanks to a montage in the 25th-anniversary special...

SST Songs that drive you crazy

Amen. Before Elmo's World, the only Sesame Street characters who repeated words that often were the Yip Yip Martians (and they didn't get a guaranteed fifteen-minute spot). Running a gag like the "topic song" into the ground might amuse kids, but it also teaches them that talking/singing that...

Your Thoughts: Sesame Street Season 39

Ouch. Retiring a character who's that central to the curriculum (no one else can do number segments that well!) is unthinkable; they'd better find a recast for the Count when Jerry Nelson retires! :batty:

    Middle part of theme song,

Hmmm. Sounds as if they added an electric-guitar part (and the bridge) to the arrangement from Season 28 or so; the other instrumentals and the kids' voices are very similar.

Your Thoughts: Sesame Street Season 39

Herry appears only in a few old inserts now, so it's pretty safe to assume they're phasing him out. I agree, though, that losing him is kind of sad; there's something about a big strong male monster who still has a sentimental, huggy side... :flirt:

    Middle part of theme song,

Not quite it! Whenever the cast went on a trip, the theme song had new lyrics adapted to their experience; those lyrics always included some version of the bridge. (The New Mexico and Montana trips used very different words; the Hawaiian one changed the bridge just barely.) Granted, that used...

Your Thoughts: Sesame Street Season 39

Prairie Dawn actually appeared in a street scene this season, warning a Muppetized letter O to run away from Cookie Monster and save itself. I don't know whether she'll make any more appearances, though!

What sketches scared you as a kid?

:o Oops! Sorry that my wording wasn't clear enough; since I was discussing how CTW could've handled divorce differently, I counted only the two married couples on the street. (Bob and Linda couldn't divorce either, of course, because there was no marriage to break up... ;))

What sketches scared you as a kid?

Bob and Linda got romantically interested in each other eventually, but they never married. In fact, they both strongly denied any plans to marry or have children (in at least two separate episodes).

What sketches scared you as a kid?

I still think that since divorce is a decision that takes a long time to make (and doesn't happen suddenly in most families), CTW should have covered the topic in a whole season-long story arc--not just in a single episode, which might explain some of the bad reactions from the test audience...

My own MC memories with Bill

I'm so sad to hear about those painful memories and setbacks, Marty...Here are a few big, extra-soft hugs just for you! {{{hug}}} {{{HUG}}} {{{*HUG*!}}} :flirt: P.S. to the board owners: It's times like this that we need an "awww!" or "love you!" smiley; using "flirt" has given some of my...

Your Thoughts: Sesame Street Season 39

Yeah, something seems fishy when they've dropped the usual pattern for new episodes this year (M/W/F one week, T/Th another, and so on). You think it's a matter of production, getting the new tapes to stations, or both?
