    Green Things: Gardening Thread

Morning glories do better if you nick the seeds a tiny bit with a sharp knife, then soak them overnight in water or weak chamomile tea (room temp, not hot). We're growing blue morning glories and moonflowers this year too. I'm a big fan of moonflowers, which only bloom at night, and which can...

    Avenge the Fallen!

Silly as that meme is, no. But I don't believe Loki is dead this time either.

    Avenge the Fallen!

Oh, I'm avoiding all spoilers, which is difficult and will become increasingly so after release (I'll go the second weekend to avoid the initial crowd rush). I have a few theories on what might happen.

    STRANGER THINGS!

Reposting (thx Pig's Laundry for directing me to this prior thread!) the trailer for S3 which dropped recently:

    Avenge the Fallen!

What? No one has posted here yet about the Avenge the Fallen meme or Endgame in general (as its own thread)? WELL then. If you haven't seen Marvel's teaser poster campaign, Google is your friend. And then came the parodies. These two legit had me giggling for fifteen minutes...

    When you need to rant...

Not to mention their algorithm continually suggests racist or homophobic videos which have absolutely nothing to do with whatever you're searching for or watching. It's a cesspool.

    Green Things: Gardening Thread

Anyone else here into growies? Anything from container gardens, fairy gardens, to backyard gardens or big plots. Spring has sprung (which in Wisconsin means 40 degree days but with 28 degree windchill still), soon crocuses and irises will be poking their heads up, and in a month it might...

    Your thoughts: Captain Marvel

Though I'm not pleased with the "completely overpowered superhero" trope, I did appreciate the fem-empowerment message, and the upending of at least two other common action film tropes (particularly the "boss fight" at the end). I haven't read the comics, so I don't know how the writers have...

    The Doctor Who Thread

For the past two weeks, I've been listening during my work commute to the Tenth Doctor Tales collection by the BBC - audiobooks read by David Tennant and Catherine Tate (who has far more range than I'd realized). I am generally not a fan of audiobooks, far preferring to just read them myself...

    News Broadcasting

I believe this started during 9/11 and was boosted during Hurricane Katrina. During 9/11 even the most stolid news anchors were visibly shaken (rightly so), and Anderson Cooper's coverage of Katrina's devastation of his beloved New Orleans received favorable response from viewers. I don't have a...

    The Doctor Who Thread

YAAASSSS. No Master has ever reached the standard set by Delgado. Not that I dislike any of them (except in the TV Movie, but that's another kettle of worms altogether), but the mustache-primping, velvet-tricked-out Master who planned better silly schemes than The Brain and Pinky was the best.

    Stranger Things

Hi all, I didn't see a prior thread for this show; if so, apologies, and please point me to it. Watched the trailer for S3 this morning and I am so there for it. Looks like there'll be more character development, which I am ALWAYS down for, more interpersonal conflicts, and as usual more...

    What made you think today?

It affects other things, though. My company hires almost no one without a degree; and even though this is the first office job I've ever worked, I was able to completely bypass the usual career track and go right into a more intensive department due to my degree and literacy level.

    What made you think today?

No chances? Why not? Maybe there just aren't enough jobs in the field in your particular city. Maybe consider saving up to move someplace where it's much likelier to find work suited to your degrees? Job markets change. For instance, my bro-in-law moved from CA to CO and now to WI: he's a games...

    What made you angry today?

Some people are so insecure they delight in tearing down others who've done them no wrong. Sad, tiny minds.

The New What Made You Frown Today Thread

The follow-up: in quietly discussing it with my work partner, found out that his raise was less percentage-wise, even though he's been with the company far longer and is expert on far more things. Huzzah for budget-slashing. Naturally none of the CEOs took a pay cut.
