    Boiling "Punky Muppet" fur

I don't have any experience with dyeing the Punky Muppet. You may want to ask Mendels. I'm sure others would want to know too so, be sure to post the answer to that one.

    A body for Fred?

Thanks J. I used craft foam for the mouth-plate. It was a newbie error. There was no grip and he remains relatively unusable. Still, he was my first puppet as a builder and I will always cherish him. Like you, I used Project Puppet and their patterns have been instrumental in building my puppet...

    A body for Fred?

He looks fantastic! Benny, in my avatar, was my first puppet. I used polar fleece but gave him the body and arms. Fred definitely deserves to be completed. I think you'll be happy you did. I wanted to rebuild Benny recently and was inspired to build a completely different and new character...

How [not] to do Avenue Q

Long read ahead. Those interested in Avenue Q or producing their own Avenue Q might find this more interesting than others. Let me be clear that I debated over posting this for a long time. I don't like it when people are just being negative online. I've always wanted to contribute something...

    Boiling "Punky Muppet" fur

Hmmmm - though the carrots may aid in any additional coloring you may wish to accomplish, I'd avoid the onions unless the desired effect is for a smelly creature. :) In this recent thread over at Puppets and Stuff it's recommended to leave the fur submerged for maybe a minute or two in the...

    Boiling "Punky Muppet" fur

People generally treat the fur before making the cuts. I did as well due to the questionable shrinkage issue. The Punky Muppet has a pretty sturdy backing anyway where I didn't notice any shrinking. It's nice to have the scrap fur with the same treatment 'just in case'. If your pattern requires...

    Boiling "Punky Muppet" fur

I have treated Punky Muppet and it works just fine. I actually soaked it in scalding hot water because I didn't want to wait for a full boil. Still, it's obvious the fur would take to boiling water as well. Though I haven't ordered from Distinctive Fabric, they have some interesting looking...

    Puppet pattern sale

Just wanted to give a plug to my good friend Pasha over at Project Puppet. They're having a 40% off sale through this Sunday, July 29. Project Puppet patterns are a fantastic way to get started in puppet building or to add to your repertoire of puppet shapes and sizes. Project Puppet got me...

    Fantastic find on etsy

I had to mention this great find I stumbled across on etsy. Dallin Blankenship is just a fantastic builder. I was so impressed with his original characters - mixing inspiration of old with his own touches and style. The color and character choices are great and instantly likable. If I had a few...

    Avenue Q- Lucy Replica Help?

Indeed. Some builders will make the top of the neck sleeve in the fleece and the bottom in a cheaper fabric but, you can certainly use all fleece if you prefer. Attaching to the bottom of the body is the way to go.

    Avenue Q- Lucy Replica Help?

The neck sleeve is so the head can move independently of the body. If the head were sewn with a small neck directly to your body form, you would have to move the whole body in order for the puppet to look side to side. With a neck sleeve, you can have more subtle movements of the head without...

    Cuddleuppets

Hehe. They do look baked. The pink poodle reminds me of Cashmere Ramada from Late Night Liars.

    Dying Fleece Issues!

Thanks for the heads-up Tom aka TheCreatureWork. I have only recently started working with Antron and wondered why my seams didn't hide so well. It made me wonder "was I doing the stitch wrong?" I had a couple of swatches of the original Antron from a puppet making workshop I took a few years...
