What's your YouTube screenname--same as the one you use here? I wanted to take a look but couldn't find your channel.

Pre-Order Sesame Street Old School Volume 3 (1979-1984) coming to DVD 11/6

And 1079 for Big Bird winning the trip, right? :) I vaguely recall watching that episode on Grandma's TV when I was a girl, but never saw the rest of the Hawaiian story arc until I began collecting old episodes online. If Sesame Workshop does decide to offer all the relevant episodes for...

Pre-Order Sesame Street Old School Volume 3 (1979-1984) coming to DVD 11/6

I remember a Honolulu journalist e-mailing me about those plans to release the Hawaiian week on DVD; she'd noticed my original uploads to YouTube and wanted to tell me that Buffy Sainte-Marie had signed the release you mentioned. It's too bad that Genius' financial problems ruined the deal...

    Things you miss

I miss a lot more than just "not having too much Elmo"; here's my list in no particular order-- So many old characters who were lost because the performer died and/or left the show: not just Muppets like Mumford, Herry, and Little Bird, but also human cast members like David, Mr. Hooper, and...

    A request: B and D sketches

There's a classic Electric Company clip that might help her remember, too; the "bed" made of letters is a good visual aid. (If you put the D first, there's no room to sleep on it...)

What sketches scared you as a kid?

Add that one to my "scary moment" list too; I was terrified of anything charging at the screen, especially with a huge noise like the yak made. Very ominous music indeed, the stuff nightmares are made of. Still, the vampire in that clip was enough to scare my pants off when I was a girl; so...

Pre-Order Sesame Street Old School Volume 3 (1979-1984) coming to DVD 11/6

P.S. As far as the various "trip weeks" on Sesame Street (New Mexico, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Montana)....I still think each one deserves a boxed set of its own, with as much commentary as the producers can get. The odds of the Workshop doing this are a million to one, but if enough old-school...

Romney wants to cut funding for PBS and Sesame Street

I won't take sides in the "who's to blame" or "who to elect" debates, since choosing a side in American politics is like answering "Which lung would you rather get cancer in--your left or your right?" Still, it would be awesome to see the old "Big Bird for President" episode re-released around...

Pre-Order Sesame Street Old School Volume 3 (1979-1984) coming to DVD 11/6

I confess...I charged Volume 3 to my "Bill Me Later" account, even though I'm trying to pay it off. Some deals are too good to refuse while you can get them! :o If the DVD set covers more of that Puerto Rico trip than I've seen in Episode 1316, it'll definitely be worth every cent....

Episodes that Have Stuck with You

Some sight gags are too funny not to reuse: During the cast's trip to New Mexico, Oscar the Grouch ate eight chili peppers in a row after Maria offered him some. He thought they were good, not showing any pain until eating the last pepper; then Oscar put out the "fire" by going to some water...

Episodes that Have Stuck with You

I just checked Muppet Wikia to find some airdates; it turns out that those "striped overalls" and "Count forgets a number" memories happen to come from the same episode (which aired in late 1975). Remember when street scenes were spread out over the course of a show, and some unrelated weirdness...

Your Thoughts: Sesame Street Season 43

With that Muppetized J appearing (and getting his own classic song revamped, yet) I was almost expecting both letters to get Thing of the Day credit: after all, the producers allowed it back in Season 37 when the premiere had a street story teaching two letters (F and L). Hearing a new...

What sketches scared you as a kid?

I remember that poor toad--proclaiming that she** was "bigger than a mountain...[puffs up for the last time]...BIGGER THAN THE WORLD!" before she exploded. And like you, I inferred that the explosion killed her ("pride goeth before destruction", anyone?). Very disturbing; they'd never air...

What sketches scared you as a kid?

Welcome to the proverbial club. I always felt sad when Willie Wimple did his damage to the world, and sadder when I saw the "if every kid did it" extremes. At least, the intended lesson hit home; seeing trash out of place brings back those awful memories!

What sketches scared you as a kid?

That one appears in one of the episodes where the cast flew to Hawaii, though I forget the exact episode number. (Search YouTube for "Sesame Street" plus "elephants have four legs"; it'll turn up!) I agree, those crashing trees and the elephant landing flat on its back scared me a little when...

What sketches scared you as a kid?

The counting-elephant cartoon was actually made for a Swedish children's show in the 70s; the title of that show translates as "Five Ants Is More Than Four Elephants". The original Swedish soundtrack of the counting cartoon had the numbers set to music (barely audible in the English version)...

The original video clip is gone, unfortunately; could someone who's actually seen it describe what happens, please?

What sketches scared you as a kid?

I definitely recall seeing that cartoon as a girl; some of the older episodes in my collection might have it too, but I'll have to check. Oddly enough, the sight of the animals stripped down to walking skeletons never scared me; I was crazy about monsters and spooky stuff back then, unlike most...

    International skits on Youtube...

By the way--tusen tack to WorldofSesame for posting those Swedish clips! It felt strange (but exciting) to see so many of my favorite bits from the 80s, dubbed into a language I love to speak and hear. :D What surprised me most, though, is the dub of Kermit's "African Alphabet" song: the...

    International skits on Youtube...

First time I've seen it in any language--the visual comedy is first-rate! It must have aired back in Season 1 of the US version, since Jim Henson did lots of popular-song "covers" (same tune and iyrics, new performers) when "Sesame Street" first aired.
