I don't think they're incredibly upset, I think moreso Disney executives are just completely confused. And, in addition, a bit disappointed that they are basically back at square one with this franchise unless the case occurs where MMW breaks out huge on home video.
The 2011 Muppets movie was...
It's becoming more and more obvious this was supposed to be released in early/summer 2013 but for some bizarre reason was held off.
Frankenweenie hit blu-ray/DVD in early January 2013 (Martin Landau), Monsters Inc then hit 3D blu-ray in February (Jennifer Tilly), Peter Pan being released almost...
Definitely ADR'd. At the time the sequel had been announced as "The Muppets... Again!" and was about to hit production. My guess is that they originally were going to make these as what they should've been: a Muppet webseries as the sequel was being made. But Disney probably held it in their...
Haha I just noticed that. I was even thinking, "What movie is Landau associated in with Disney now?"
Heck, what was Jennifer Tilly doing for Disney in 2012? She wasn't even in "Monsters University"!
Really, honestly, in the nicest way possible: anyone who doesn't think MMW underperformed at the box office is absolutely delusional. It made 10 million less WORLDWIDE than the predecessor's DOMESTIC total. I don't think any Disney execs were content with that.
Instead right now, what's...
Well that explains the Wreck-It Ralph plug. I was thinking, "Why would they be pushing a two-year-old Disney animation flick?" (I'm guessing they ADR'd the MMW press junket line)
It also explains why Jennifer Tilly looks as good as she did.
As much as I hate to say this as well, even though you're optimistically looking at the film as doing better than other flops the problem is that family films are one of the most consistently bankable items in Hollywood nowadays. A family film that does mediocre business is not well looked upon...
Most likely Disney has stopped tracking it daily due to insufficient theater counts. You may see updates on it in a week or so, because I'd be shocked if the Mouse pulled it right before hitting 50 mil.
I think it has a few countries to go, especially Germany (which will give it a small...
If it just "reaches its budget" then all that means is that it's not a flop. Which of course is good for the brand reputation but Disney is looking for profit, not stability. There's also marketing costs to take in account from. And don't think I'm being pessimistic when saying this, I'm just...
Yup, right on target with 9 to 10 million, which is a decent hold.
Good to hear about the merchandise. The franchise would really be down in the dumps if that failed to sell.
I'm confused, Up was both a huge critical and box office success. Until TS3 the following year, it was the second highest grossing Pixar film.
Anyways, update. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/
MMW stayed mostly flat (a tiny decrease of 3.5%) and made 1.1 million. The grand total is...
It's because I'm being objective while other people are giving me crap for it because they're hearing something they don't want to hear. Guys: I get it, this sucks, but denying it isn't going to do anything.
Today on the box office update: MMW crosses 20 million after six days. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/
But you guys can live in the world where this isn't a domestic flop, that's cool.
Those are very rare cases, most likely due to strong word of mouth. MMW is not getting great word of mouth. Divergent is increasing exponentially while MMW stays modest at best. Every single box office analyst, who have been doing this for years have commented that this movie won't make back its...
Just because they've had worse bombs doesn't make this not a flop. I know it's a hard fact to swallow, but Disney is a business. We have to look at this objectively.
