That sounds right -- I went to the Wiki and that's indeed what it says, and that matches up with what I remember. Season 3 it is. I know one or two are in the first show of Season 4.
I'm glad they were brought back. Those were some of my favorite segments as a kid.
In the early 1980s there was a news story on "Weekend Update" (though IIRC it was called "SNL Newsbreak" at the time) about an assassination attempt against Big Bird which supposedly happened during a Sesame Street Live performance. (It was just a sketch, everyone was okay.)
During the bit they...
I sure did -- I am just hoping this isn't the "only version" of this sketch available. I also found one in B&W possibly from a kinescope, but with the same soundtrack.
I had been looking for this sketch for a long time -- please tell me this isn't a "semi-lost" one.
I found this video:
Something is funky with it. That doesn't sound like Jim Henson's voice. The impression I get is this was only found "out in the wild" in a foreign dubbed international...
So there were nine straight weeks of shows without Mr. Hooper? Did he at least appear in any inserts? That just seems like a long time to (for lack of a better word) "dance around it," but I guess you gotta do what you gotta do.
EDIT: Wow -- I just went to the Muppet Wikia page for #1790. That...
I certainly remember seeing Will Lee's (and later Northern Calloway's) obituaries in the newspaper at the time they occurred. By 1982 I was in high school and I had not "regularly" watched Sesame Street in several years, although I would tune in for a moment here and there sometimes and check it...
This is a real "long shot." But a big part of my Sesame Street viewing experience wasn't actually part of the show, but our local PBS station (WTTW-Channel 11 in Chicago) used to brand their kids show lineup as "Children's Fair" (possibly a play on words as they were presenting children's...
This reminds me of something from my early childhood. When I first watched Sesame Street as a little kid, I remember the "Falling Baker" films being on all the time, usually multiple times within one show, then at some point they disappeared. There must have been a season where they didn't air...
That makes sense. I have to go back and watch Roscoe Orman's interview with the Archive Of American Television. I thought he mentioned there that he did the voice of Hardhead Henry Harris.
One other thing, they talk about how Matt Robinson continued to voice Roosevelt Franklin in the "classroom" sketches after he was no longer playing Gordon -- how long did that continue?
Also, Roscoe Orman was part of these as the voice of Hardhead Henry Harris. But those sketches started before...
I apologize if this has been addressed, but I haven't read through 136 pages on this thread.
So regarding the article about lost episodes -- meaning ones actually missing from the archive as opposed to just not being accessible:

Hey, I am overjoyed to see more vintage shows popping up and available to be seen. I don't care about a "leaker's motivation." All I can say is "thank you."
I haven't read through all this so I'm not sure if this has been mentioned, but I finally watched the whole thing yesterday and I liked the reference (which parents of the time would have caught) where David asks her if she'd like a cup of coffee, and she says no, she doesn't drink coffee.
I know I'm late to the party here, but the first few seasons were the primary years when I watched the show (though I probably kept up with it to some degree for at least the first six seasons). So it's very disappointing to learn (1) that there are so many missing episodes, and (2) the majority...
I haven't seen the Biography show, but "This Way To Sesame Street" was the name of a 30-minute promotional special aired by NBC just prior to the premiere of Sesame Street. Some of that other footage sounds like it might have been from vintage promos maybe?
That was a hilarious scene, by the way. Isn't that where he talks about the pledge breaks, where they interrupt the show and beg for money, and Oscar says something like, "I love that!"
Very interesting observation!
Just a couple of things... I note that on some of the early guides that got sent out for the first season, the cover photo shows Garrett Saunders as Gordon. And I think I have seen that photo somewhere else in early promotion for the series (once it was actually on...
That's likely, but I'm sure someone can answer that more definitively than I can.
I only remember seeing that segment once, and it scared the heck out of me. I don't remember ever seeing it again -- but decades later when Noggin was running some of the old shows, it popped up in a "123 Sesame...
