Sam and Friends Book Read our review of the long-awaited book, "Sam and Friends - The Story of Jim Henson's First Television Show" by Muppet Historian Craig Shemin.
Both of the recent movies had this issue. The humans are written really well and have a ton to do. The writing for the Muppets has been comparatively awkward. Just because you hire people who have fond Muppet memories from their childhood doesn't mean they really know how to write for them.
This is kinda why I sometimes wish fans weren't so easily excited over remakes/reboots. Rarely do the studios go to the real talent. They just coast on fan anticipation.
Lol, oh yes, I remember seeing that movie when someone was watching it on their portable DVD player on the bus. When the Jersey Shore people came on, my first thought was "Desperate sell out, much?" :p
Which makes their reunion infinitely more touching for me. :) A lot of great comedies don't shy away from the poignant. And it's not so much that they desert Kermit. They feel bad for being a burden on him.
But glad to hear you liked the movie a little more. ;)
The only thing that bothers me is when audiences know a character can never die because they read in Entertainment Weekly the actor is signed for the next 5 movies, lol. :p
Ahhh yes, I remember. News like that always seemed so much more exciting somehow because it was harder to come by. You had to wait, as opposed to the whole instant click societywe have now.
Well it's new, fresh and untested. They're hoping they can entice a wary audience. While with a 4th (wow) Bayformers movie, people pretty much know what they're getting.
I do recall going through brief Brady obsession in the 90s what with the movies, documentaries, etc. That's when my love for retro really started to blossom I think, lol.
And for sure, Ann B. Davis was a brilant comedic actress; she will definitely be missed by me. I always remember how she...
I really loved what the actors did for the characters in the first Flintstones movie. But I can understand why the movie isn't universally praised. The overall execution is a bit confused and some things that work well in cartoons just end up looking weird and awkward in real life, lol.
Have you ever seen Taxi Driver? The guy is disgusted with all the filth he sees around him, yet the only movies he goes to see are pornographic. Basically he likes to torture and punish himself for his own desires. I think I've had similar experiences watching "Dr. Phil" type talk shows, or even...
The main thing I would tell people is don't lose faith in humanity based on these reality shows. This isn't at all how real people behave in normal life. This is how people behave when placed in an artificial, high pressure (often intoxicated) environment. And more often than not, at least in my...
The problem with sequels is they're usually incredibly unnecessary. The first movie ties everything up nicely and there's nowhere else for the story to go (Looking at you, Pirates!).
Same with the majority of remakes, they just aren't necessary. And if they try to be different, they usually...
Television loves retreads, lol. It's shows that only last 2 seasons they prefer to forget. Maybe it's not always fair, I honestly didn't follow MT much, but that's showbiz. :p
