    Puppet Making Instructions on CD

Foam Hey fishbone. The kits come with a 16"x36" sheet of reticulated foam that is an off-white, neutral color. The foam is not dyed. The instructions outline the procedure for dying the foam to the color you desire. You may cut the pattern pieces out, and then dye them. Or you may dye the...

    New Pattern from Project Puppet

Hi all! Project Puppet has just made availbale the newest pattern in the Forma series - The Ovale Puppet Pattern. The pattern and instructions focus on an elongated oval-shaped head. We feel this head shape lends itself very well to animal characters. Check out the pattern here. Also take a look...

Just found large solid colored foam balls!!

Great find! Great find Dagger Claws! I actually have one of the balls in my closet. I found it a few months ago at Wal-mart. One one left. No markings, tags, nothing. Wal-mart didn't even know the price. I've hung onto the ball, in hopes I'd find more like it. Thanks for the info! You gotta...

    Coverings other than fleece?

Hey... Hey Macbrander. I've brushed latex over foam many times. Personally, I don't think it has the right look for human characters. It's better for creatures, ogres, etc. If you want to use latex for human characters, to achieve the best look you'll probably have to go through the whole...

So you want to audition for the Muppets?

Well said at savethemuppets.com. Disney prostitutes their own characters, why would we expect any different. If only we could go back to days of Walt and Jim when quality and loyalty to character meant something, no matter how much money was to be gained or lost.

    Airbrush/Dying Question

Airbrushing A fabric pen is probably the safest. I use a fine-point Sharpie. It goes on real quick, and once you are familiar with the pattern, there's only a couple spots to avoid marking around the mouth. You would assemble the head with the marks on the inside. If you need more on this...

    Airbrush/Dying Question

Hey ToasterBoy! I don't think you can dye Scott foam white, at least I haven't heard of a way. You might just consider leaving it its natural color. The off-white, yellowish hue still says "death". Or you could airbrush the foam white with airbrush paint used for t-shirts (such as Createx)...

    Puppeteer's Resources Links

Puppet Links... Of course, www.projectpuppet.com has information on puppet building as well as reticulated foam (Scott foam), but here are some links I've found useful: For fake fur (especially the 3-inch shaggy fur): www.mendels.com For realistic eyes: www.schoepferseyes.com For...

hey guys im making a full body costume

Think minimalistic I agree with Buck. You'll want the suit and head as light as possible. I'd try thinking very minimalistic. I would suggest building the head from 3/4" to 1" sheet foam and supporting it internally only in the necessary places, for example, around the eyes if they are to move...

    Feedback on my puppets

On Removable Arm Rods... Just wanted to mention that the Punto Pattern at ProjectPuppet.com includes in its instructions a technique for removable arm rods that requires materials that are readily available and inexpensive. One of the items can be purchased at your local pet store (wink, wink)...

Out with the old - in with the new! We are working on the Ovale Pattern - the third pattern in the Forma Series at www.projectpuppet.com, and the workshop is just too crowded. As a result, a couple of our tenants are looking for new places to live. Both Rupert and Leo are up for auction and...

    New Puppet Pattern Kit

The Punto pattern is now available at www.projectpuppet.com. It is the second set of instructions in the Forma series which emphasizes the puppet's head shape as the fundamental clue to the character's personality. The Punto pattern focuses on a conical shaped head. It also explains a useful...

My two cents... These threads lately have been GREAT! I figured I'd put in my two cents. My theory is that all puppets come from the 2-D world. They are drawings or cartoons brought to life. One thing I've always found interesting is that nobody says that Mickey Mouse, Daffy Duck or...
