    Questions About The Toy Industry

Thank-you for your thoughts on childhood and the toys of 2010, Drtooth. I think...what was going to be freeing has become leveling - leveling things out, creating a more (not less) rigid society and I mean the ideal of no ideology: let everything flow, like electricity, and we'll all be...

    The DVD Beaver

Jim Henson's manager, producer of the Mupet Show. Neglected to mention who Bernie was: Bernie Brillstein.

    The DVD Beaver

Somewhere in here... (Hollywood, continued) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79bPhIvM86c Somewhere in here Bernie talks about his first meeting with Jim Henson... Bernie is a sweetheart to listen to. Should have been a Muppet!

    The DVD Beaver

Thanks for the tip, G.L. ! Thanks also for all your input on this site. The King-Daddy film website is www.variety.com . It is intended for people working in the film industry, and they put an awful lot into it. I remember thumbing through the print version of Variety as a boy, disappointed...

    The DVD Beaver

The Internet Movie Data Base has become extremely popular. Other sites seem less well-known, yet these are maybe a little less dry than IMDB, which seems to be essentially a reference tool. The DVD Beaver: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/new.htm The Beaver-webmaster's love for movies is...

Loony Tunes, a theory as to why the are a tough sell...

Thanks for this post, also to Frogboy for his insight. :wisdom: Something sure has changed. When VHS first came out, renting old Looney Tunes was one of the best things the new technology brought. By the time the Tunes DVD's were more or less properly done... ...the excitement seemed to...

    Schedule: Saturday Morning TV, 1960-2010

Was happy to stumble on this, and thought you might dig it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1974-75_United_States_network_television_schedule_(Saturday_morning) (This is one year, but includes the grid for 'em all!)

    When should celebrities write autobiographies?

When they have a story to tell, independently from adding to or taking away from their career. Normally that would be after the fireworks have died down...along with the need or desire to trigger interest in oneself. A celebrity who actually is a writer also, under it all, should definitely...

    Buried treasure

Describe something good which happened in your life, made a difference, but which you've never really shared with anyone...maybe you couldn't, maybe you wouldn't: too ordinary to understand it is special; not something you'd say to your own circle, etc.

What was the last DVD you bought and why?

La Traviata on DVD, 2008 production in Milan, all-regions disc made in Germany, filmed by Italians. I bought this as a result of looking at which new opera DVD's were selling like hotcakes in France.

What was the last DVD you bought and why?

The Westerner by director William Wyler. The best Hollywood film director of the 20th century, but don't take my word for it, take it from someone who was practically a muppet herself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vp08PIIy62Q . Wyler understood that a movie is a show.

"Power of the Dark Crystal" feature production launches in Australia

Ray Harryhausen tells it like it is...though you have to wait to the end for his comments on CGI: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4K4I59jUTs When something is real / not-real, like a puppet or a miniature, something clicks inside the viewer, and we are engaged; CGI tries to bypass all...
