I mean, sure they recycled plots a lot over the years, but now we live in an age of streaming when kids can watch whatever episodes they want, whenever they want. Seems like you would need to shake things up a bit more.

Julia didn't appear in the actual special, but on Cartoon Network there was a PSA with her and her brother in it a little bit after.
Also, coincidentally, I think right after the special there was a Lunchables ad that featured Violet Tinnirello, who plays Charlie.
You know what? Not the most remarkable episode but I appreciate that the human cast got some relatively substantial stuff to work with. Chris in particular. They felt a bit more like people in this one, and not so much interchangeable sidekicks to the Muppets.
That makes sense. Personally, I do think Ryan's Elmo works better with Abby than Kevin's did.
Although, I do wonder what Ryan's Elmo would be like with Jennifer's Zoe, since we haven't seen much of that.

I am still pretty sad that the Elmo/Zoe dynamic is dead, but I will say the writers have found a pretty funny and cute dynamic in Rosita and Zoe since about season 47.
Jim is always easy to identify for me because of the way his character's heads tend to kind of jerk and bobble around.
But yeah, over all I agree with Oscarfan's assessment.
Disappointing indeed! That feels so wrong and disrespectful. Sesame Workshop literally hyped this episode up too. What was the point of Caroll doing the voices at all?
