Onions don't tend to make me cry, but they do make my eyes burn terribly.

But many people do "cry" (it's not really crying, so I don't care for that term), when chopping/whatever onions...I think it is something that is just hit or miss with people, in the same way that allergies are like that: some people have them badly and some people barely have them at all.

I used to have no problem with them when I wore contact lenses, but now that I've gone back to Glasses they get me from time to time. I think you just have to be super speedy and not let their juices get too much into the air.

True. The lenses block some of the gases emitted by the onion flesh, which trigger the allergic "crying". I'm the same way. And the older the onion, the more gas it gives off. Scallions never cause me to tear up but a big yellow onion that's been sitting around for weeks...yep.
