Are you serious with this paragraph? Every time somebody does poorly on an exam they should be required to see a psychologist? And you are actually holding the school responsible for this? YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING? RIGHT?
Yeah. it's a retarded statement isn't it? especially when said students start acting out and being depressed about it. Yeah. pretty **** stupid isn't it.

Tell that to the students that ******* jump in the Charles River.

Nope NO one is responsible for everything, and let's let this happen again and again and again because no one wants to look at anything

You win the argument... here's a friggin' balloon.

The problem is everyone is blaming everything and everyone on what happened. Violent movies, guns, security, advertisements, mental illness, low test scores. Everything else is to blame except the shooter himself. Seriously, stop playing the blame game.

And Drtooth, I feel your argument is full of flaws. Seriously, you feel that EVERY student that does terribly on a test should have psychological evaluations? I'm sorry but that's not the answer. Sure, there is depression and suicide but there are other warning signs to be aware of. Failing a test ISN'T one of them. I've failed tests in the past and sure I was down about a little bit but in the end I moved on and tried harder. The same can be said about thousands of other students who also believe that failing a test isn't the end of the world.

Yes, the warning signs are there and should be looked out for but that doesn't mean EVERY student is that way. Stop blaming the school for this tragedy. Blame the man who actually committed the horrendous act.

There's a difference between failing a test and a major exam. Failing a major exam can destroy your education, your potential career, and even your future. Unless you're lucky enough to have the money to retake a class and have another semester, you're totally screwed. A test... oh, you can take that again. This wasn't a test... this was a major grade that was the only thing standing in the way of him getting a PhD.

Think of it this way. The look of pure anger and disappointment in your parents face, the fact that you're probably going to have to work the rest of your life in minimum wage jobs and have to pay student loans you'll never get under control. That sense of pure dread... that's not something that's easy to shake off. He clearly worked hard to get to where he was, and something knocked him hard.

And frankly, that pressure DOES get to people. Again, MIT had a huge suicide rate that had to be dealt with. Would you be able to shake off losing your life's dream you worked hard for?

All I'm saying is college culture needs to change, not because of some killer, but because it's a LOUSY culture. I hated it, every one I knew that wasn't the professor's pet hated it. I passed the whole thing by the seat of my pants, and I got nothing out of it but debt.

Yes, the warning signs are there and should be looked out for but that doesn't mean EVERY student is that way. Stop blaming the school for this tragedy. Blame the man who actually committed the horrendous act.
Listen... sure.. just blame the killer. That's a sound judgement, sure... but every time something like this happens there's a lesson to be learned. And we have yet to learn it. Mental illness DOES screw people up. And what came out of all these tragedies? Columbine- the shooters had mental problems. Virginia tech- the shooter had mental problems. That army base shooter- Mental problems. All mental problems be it bullying or a traumatic event.

Why is it so wrong to bookmark various problems that lead to these things? If we actually put pieces together, we can STOP these things from happening in the future. Those who do not learn their history are DOOMED to repeat it. And we DO NOT want a repeat of this. Sure, we'll have a bunch of stupid and useless band-aid solutions, but maybe, just maybe, we can catch this sort of behavior, deny the mental atrophied advance weaponry, and get them the help they need/isolate them from society in institutions.

But no... we'd rather ignore problems and make shocked faces when it happens again.

I never said no one is responsible for anything but so far in this thread you've blamed the movie theater for not having security at the doors, the NRA, the gun club owner and now the school itself. How about blaming the one person responsible for this tragedy? The shooter himself!

You yourself pretty much said the same thing in your criticism of the media earlier in this thread:

2) The Blame Game. Blaming the random events of a crazy person on everything under the sun, EXCEPT massive psychological issues, and personal problems.

You think theaters should have security at all exit doors. Over one terrible incident. There have been billions and billions of movie showings without incident and now because of this one tragedy we should have security guards at all theater exits.

While I'm not a big fan of the NRA and do think our gun laws need tightening these murders were meticulously planned. The shooter was going to find a way to commit these murders regardless of the gun laws.

I do agree that the gun club owner could have done more but that is hindsight. Do you call the police over every strange answering machine message?

And there are students failing tests and exams and classes all the time. Not all them are going out and committing suicide or going to theaters and killing people. Maybe we should just give all students A s and then we wouldn't have any issues.

I know people don't like the randomness of this tragedy but there isn't a lot that could've been done. Remember, you are seeing all of these events with the benefit of hindsight. But how many of these things seemed innocent at the time. Are there a lot of what ifs? Sure, there always are. But putting blame on everybody and everything else is irresponsible.

We don't know the motives of this monster yet. Maybe we never will. I doubt though that he committed the murders because he failed a test. If that were the case he would have committed the shooting at the university. My sense is he has a serious psychological problem and a poor grasp on reality. His comments to the police upon his arrest that he is the Joker, his died red hair and his outfit, the stories that the police put evidence bags on his hands to preserve any gun powder on his hands and he was making hand puppets, him asking his guard at the jail how the movie ended, his blank stare at the hearing, all seem to indicate that he had a very poor grasp of reality.

But it is nobody elses fault but HIS.

Dude... totally in agreement, man. Like, you know what's great? Sneaking into a movie without paying. Someone could totally just bar the door open and let a whole bunch of their friends in for free. And hey, maybe they can carry in some cameras and totally record the movie and throw it up on the web. Sure. The movie industry LOVES that.

No, it's not security... it's hiring ushers to make sure no one sneaks into a **** theater to see a movie for free. It's the first night of a freaking large blockbuster film. No one's predicting a shooting, ******... but there's no foresight in seeing that someone's going to sneak in a bunch of friends by having them sit outside the emergency door? The **** with a shooting, piracy maybe?

While I'm not a big fan of the NRA and do think our gun laws need tightening these murders were meticulously planned. The shooter was going to find a way to commit these murders regardless of the gun laws.
And therefore it doesn't matter if he could get that stuff easily or jump through the massive hoops it would take to track down illegal weaponry. Especially if the second one took more time and left a larger trail. But hey, hindsight. I mean without weaponry, he easily could have had something more cumbersome and easily detectible.

I do agree that the gun club owner could have done more but that is hindsight. Do you call the police over every strange answering machine message?
Nah... after the 20th call, the pervert usually gives up. They have more important things to do than have someone call someone up and tell them to knock it off.

Nope... because some of them don't care, go to a cow college just to freaking drink and party. I'm not saying send every kid that gets a **** D to the mental institution, just have someone I dunno... TALK to them? Maybe work out a freakin' redo?

Oh, and don't tell me how I know this, but they do tend to kick problem kids out of school. I knew at least 3 people who had strange behavior that were. one carries a metal pole with him everywhere.

But it is nobody elses fault but HIS.
True that. He was the one who inflicted himself with pressure and depression. There is no such thing as mental illness. He wanted to do this because he had complete clarity. Let's not pay attention to anything BUT that. Then we can all play the SAME friggin game when this happens again. And it will. And it will happen after that and after that and after that and after that...

Nobody is saying we shouldn't delve into what this guy's motive was but we can't live in a bubble wrap society. Maybe we should all just wear kevlar vests and helmets.
