The new Spider-Man has heart, humor, grit and great chemistry from its leading stars. It also has a sluggish first act filled with flashbacks that add very little to the story in this film. It sets the stage for some truly amazing sequels. This one seemed to have the bland studio hand in it a little more than it should. This gets a solid B from me.

I would have accepted it a lot more if it didn't have such an annoying and TOTALLY unrealistic villain. I agree though, it could have amazing sequels!

The Lizard is a popular, classic Spider-Man villain that was set up in Raimi's trilogy but was never used. A lot of Spidey's villains are kind of spectacular. I had no problem with him except the facial design and haphazard character development. Dr Connors was supposed to have more of a mentor connection to Peter Parker. I feel they wasted too much time on other elements in the beginning of the film. I also feel that the director called upon a few too many of Raimi's cinematic strategies.

Well, yes, I knew that, but for me it was the way that the Lizardness randomly wore off that wasn't really explained and seemed a bit of a plot-hole. And I guess I just couldn't take him seriously as a threat at any point. And, as usual, he went from zero-crazy in about three scenes time...surely people don't start wanting to teraform a city before they have even figured out their own personal motivations.

I didn't see it yet, but the fact they're starting the movie off with that sort of reminds me of the Spectacular Spider-Man series. That's the villain they started the show with too.

I'm glad we're getting a character that wasn't used before in film form. It's a shame they couldn't do that with the third Batman film.

To the surprise of no one.

That's ridiculously strong right there. I can't wait to see it go head to head with Batman in 2 weeks. Avengers was lucky that all of its competition was weak (I'm disappointed MIB 3 fell so fast, though), but those are 2 of the strongest blockbusters of the summer being released within 2 weeks of each other. And even though Batman doesn't have a stronger rogue's gallery this time out (all the more a shame it's the last one), he still has a furious fanbase of rabid Batfans. That's going to be interesting.

Oh... and Magic Mike fell to five. I guess it's done it's Mommy Porn business.

I haven't seen Brave, but it just looks the same as all these other stupid Disney stuff.
These things are all the same...the adults and the boys are stupid and the girls are the very smart ones and fast ones. All those Disney channel shows are exaclty the same.
Now, we have Brave to join them. I haven't seen a normal male character in any of the trailers or posters or clips or anything for Brave. And I doubt there are any in the movie.
I feel Pixar was forced to do this movie, they could've done WAAY much better.

Wow...I dont know where to begin with that. You can't seriously be lumping all disney movies in with whats on the channel. I have not seen Brave, and I probably won't, but you can't accuse it of being the same as the shows if you have yet to actually see it. And how do you define "normal?" Brave handsome dude who falls for the girl and everything ends in a kiss? Remember, they are trying to market the movie for girls. Not boys.

Also...a short list of smart boys on Disney Channel: Cody Martin (Suite Life), Phineas, Ferb, Baljeet (Phineas and Ferb), Dipper (Gravity Falls), Justin (Wizards of Waverly Place), Kick (Kick Buttowski)

I get what you are saying there... Is there a normal male character, a smart one at least? No, I didn't think so. And I know that they are marketing it for girls, which is why I am saying the above.
All these Disney things that are directed to girls are all exactly the same. Every single one of them. And I hate the fact that this new Pixar movie is directed only to a single gender, they never had that in the past. Like I said, they were really forced to do this movie.
