Is there an overrated/underrated Muppet production?

This is all subjective, of course. I see MFS has already been covered, so I don't have to come to its defense. What about Muppets Tonight? Outside of the fandom, no one even seems to remember that show existed. It had some big guest stars, some great new characters, some laugh-out-loud moments, some (well, a few, anyway) iconic musical numbers, and lots of general Muppetness. It also had its problems and missteps, but it didn't deserve the treatment it got from ABC or its early cancellation.

My family did try watching it back in the day but quickly turned it off; it just didn't hold our attention. It didn't feel Muppety for me, though I really wanted to like it. I loved the Muppets so it was disapointing. Maybe given time it could have worked itself out, it does happen.

Me and my family adore Muppet Treasure Island, so I was really surprised when a lot of people either said it was boring or that the last good Muppet production was Muppet Christmas Carol. Okay, so Jim Hawkins could've been better, but for what it was, it was an okay performance. And I never got the modern-rat-tourists running gag, but it still made me laugh. Aside from that, it's a great movie! It has great songs, a good script and has both the goofiness and randomness of the Muppets while staying true to Treasure Island. And c'mon! Tim Curry, Billy Connolly and Jenifer Sanders! Need I say more?

I prefer MTI to MCC. At least it feels a LOT more Muppety.

But It's a shame they don't have Clueless Morgan around anymore.

MCC I still really like, I just prefer MTI. Me and my sisters kind of have this mini-war with our cousins on which is better. XD

VMX is underated. It has some really off moments wich I think makes people not like it, but emotionally it so great. Some wonderful scenes...I love Gonzo and Kermit singing, I love the restored Muppet back stage (wich was much better than the version in the MUppets). I love seeing so many Muppets classic and modern being used. The whole bit with Whoopie and the angel didn't work for me in retrospect, but I still like this one.

I love VMX! I too feel that is underrated. Some people I know thought it was the worst Muppet production! I love the mix of Henson/1970's Muppet feel of it, as well as the modern celebrities and songs. Very much like The Muppets! Pepe and Rizzo really shined in this movie, too bad they were barely seen in the new movie.

I think Muppet Christmas Carol was overrated but appreciate it was the first one since Jim's death so probably difficult for all involved. I think Great Muppet Caper is very underrated, and while MCC is on telly over here (UK) every Christmas, GMC hasn't been shown since the late 80s. The Disney World special was also underrated and as far as i'm aware has not been shown over here since around 1990/91.

I enjoyed VMX yeah trust me it had some bad parts but ironically did not hate it as much as some people did. I had very low expectations to begin with when I first watched it but I found I actually enjoyed it. Trust me it ain't got nothing on MFC but it wasn't as bad as LTS! Besides like most people agree you could say this was Steve's first break out role as Kermit. It was nice to see it shift back on him. Because he was more a costar in MCC and MTI. And he definitely took a backseat in MFS.

Extremely underrated: Muppet Treasure Island. Really, people don't like this movie all that much for some reason. True, it's not super Muppety, but when you really look at it, there's a ton of good lines and jokes and songs. The Muppets (unlike with MCC) really were able to Muppetize the book quite well.

Overrated: Muppet Christmas Carol. It's a pretty good movie, good songs and that, but the jokes and stuff aren't terrific. It's a good movie, but it doesn't fit the Muppet movie caliber that I think of.
