The Tea Party is traditional conservatism, I'll give it that... but modern day Republicans are all Neo-Cons, and it's all about giving money to those that have more than enough of it... I don't want to get into it... but the REAL Tea Party was based off of very angry conservatives, 9/11 truthers and Ron Paul style isolationist/libertarian types that came off of anger from the right of G.W. Bush. It was exploited by the Neo-Cons until it just became a loud, angry, messy, and completely immature Anti-Obama thing. Ron Paul is the closest to some core Tea Party ideals... strangely enough, even some Occupy Wall Street ideals are close to his (except the minimum wage crap... there's NO reason to bring us back to Industrial Revolution US), but the Republican Party wants another Neo-Con in the White House to keep up with the Reagan/Bush SR./Bush Jr. policies of picking fights with random countries to justify high military spending, all the while keeping it underfunded, and yanking out anything that helps the middle and lower middle class out. It's all about short term gains and long term suffering. not saying the Dems are all that much better, but at least Clinton had some of that stuff paid for, even gave us a budget surplus.

We hear all this crap about how angry everyone all the sudden that a Democrat comes into office is about the U.S. debt, which was mainly racked up because they refused to raise taxes on the rich to fund 2 unwinnable wars... most of the money going to no bid contracts to crooked weapons and building companies... not even directly for the troops and actual armor that could protect us. Ever see the rare Disney cartoon where Donald Duck gets a pay check, and a slimey salesman wants him to waste his money gambling, but a Scottish Duck tells him he needs to save so he can pay taxes to fund our soldiers in WW2? Then, it was considered highly patriotic for everyone to give financial support for our troops. Now it's just something Rich people profit off of without having to fund or fight it. That's why the country's in such bad shape. Everyone wants some big "My dad is stronger than your dad" contest, but no one wants to pay for it.
Thanks for trying to explain this to me, although I have to say Republicans are truly are a bit of more selfish in the political system to keep their money instead of Spending it. :grouchy:

"I happen to think it's immoral for us to keep spending money we don't have, and passing on to our kids our obligations," Romney told supporters at Homer's Deli in Clinton, Iowa. "My test is, is a program so critical that it's worth borrowing money from China to pay for it."
Look... HERE'S how to fix the money problems in this country...

1. Stop making the penny.
2. Make all sales prices in five-cent increments (i.e. $1.00, $1.05, $1.10, etc)
3. Oblitirate sales taxes.

That will solve all of our problems right there.

Or better yet, get the frag out of the Middle East once and for all. It does nothing for us, we wind up creating the same psychotic, religious fear based leaders we have to go back and blow up more innocent people and one boogie man to put another dictator that we have to get rid of. All it does is waste OUR money, waste OUR army, waste OUR soldiers' lives, and it doesn't do anything but make them madder and madder.

The thing is, I sympathize with the main Repbulican (voter) complaint. We keep wasting money and going into deficits. People are worried where their money's going. I think everyone, left and right can agree to that.

I can get this... everyone's furious that all this money went to big banks (that the government LET get that big, mind you) in bailouts to keep them in business, so they can continue to buy politicians to deregulate them so 2008 can happen over and over and over again. But how come NO ONE is complaining about the massive tax cuts all these companies are getting, the loopholes that stop them from even having to pay their taxes at all, and worse, the corporate welfare... basically bribing companies to create jobs, and then giving them money for NOT doing what they should be doing in the first place. That's like buying an F student an X-Box even if he didn't get so much as a D on his report card. Why reward a misbehaving kid?

There's all this money wasted on cheap political point warfare and corporate socialism, and when the traditional conservatives finally wise up and rebel against their Neo-Con puppet masters, the overpaid squawking heads throw around the word "Communism" and it's back to loving the monster that's eating your legs.

And of course "balancing the budget" comes off of schools, disaster relief, emergency services, and by nickle and diming PBS and NPR because they aren't a big media conglomerate owned by a multibillionaire megalomaniac Aussie.

Well, you know how Republicans are when you try to take their wars away from them.

The funny thing is, up until the Neo-Cons Shanghaied the Tea Party movement, their first and foremost belief was one of isolationism. Even most Republican voters feel both wars were complete bull. But then the Neos did what they usually do and made them all love Middle East badgering again. Yet, same Neos that complained that Obama pulled us out of Iraq on Bush's withdrawl date complained about Obama's Libya policy... and what, we were basically just support and like in and out in the matter of a few months?

True conservatives are isolationists. It's the Neo-Cons and their 1% constituency that love the idea of profiting off of something they not need to muddy their hands with. It's us 99% who have to go and fight these gladiator battles for their enjoyment.

I don't want any ads during Sesame Street, or any PBS show for that matter!
As long as the ads are just promos, I'm fine.

We already have ads before shows, even kid's ones... the kids ones are at least disguised as funding credits. The adult shows have actual commercials running before programming.

They have a lot of sponsors for Sesame Street already. I mean, those letters and numbers have a couple bucks, don't get me started on how much those vowels make. I mean, the letters CEO alone make millions. But, if the government cuts funding for Sesame Street, then they're gonna have to put up a lot more cash and I don't think they can afford that...I'm kind of being smart and sarcastic here, should I put a winking face on to show that or should I just leave it be?

Just a few quotes that transcend party politics and point to my opinion that any productive society needs to support the arts free of corporate directives or advertisements.
“The Arts and Sciences, essential to the prosperity of the State and to the ornament of human life, have a primary claim to the encouragement of every lover of his country and mankind.”
George Washington
“Art is a nation’s most precious heritage. For it is in our works of art that we reveal to ourselves and to others the inner vision which guides us as a nation. And where there is no vision, the people perish.”
Lyndon Johnson
"The arts foster creativity, and creativity is central to our business strategy. Indeed, we believe there is a strong link between the creativity nurtured by the arts and scientific creativity. If our scientists are stimulated through their involvement with the arts, then it's ultimately good for our business -- and our community."
-Randall L. Tobias, CEO Eli Lilly and Company.
“Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. That’s because they were able to connect experiences they’ve had and synthesize new things. And the reason they were able to do that was that they’ve had more experiences or they have thought more about their experiences than other people. Unfortunately, that’s too rare a commodity. A lot of people in our industry haven’t had very diverse experiences. So they don’t have lots of dots to connect, and they end up with very linear solution without a broad perspective on the problem. The broader one’s understanding of the human experience, the better design we will have.”

I agree with Steve Jobs. I can appreciate it if you can recite every word of every rule on the checklist for a particular nursing skill, but ... CAN YOU MAKE CRAP UP IF SOMETHING GOES AWRY?

*my two cents*

Anyway, Romney doesn't know the love of Muppetdom, LOL. He should go see the Muppets and see the finale and realize just how many people (I think that scene is a good indicator) he'll tick off, and that's just in one city of CA.

That being said, and don't kill me for this, but PBS is always at risk of being killed off because it has to depend on the leaky sieve of government spending. It's not like I want Oscar surrounded by empty bags of Doritos or anything, but being like a "real" channel would help them out a lot.
