Here are your Muppet News headlines for tonight! ...Prominent Republicans promise that tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans and corporations will benefit the entire economy and trickle down to the unemployed! And a spokesman for Exxon says the recent oil spill was "not as bad as has been feared" and that precautions have already been taken so that it never happens ag...wait.

*shuffles through notes*

All right. What joker gave me the headlines from 1989?

*stomps off in a huff*

... Anyone else getting that "been there, heard that" feeling of late? Just how dumb, or short of memory, do the politicos and CEOs think the populace is? Even scarier...ARE they that dumb and short of attention-span? Thoughts, anyone?

I'm a little confused, was the remarks of tax breaks for the wealthy serious, or were you joking? I mean, either wa I know it's going to happen, because Republicans don't let Obama do anything, and they don't want the wealthy to part with one red cent of their precious moolah that they sit around on on their big fat hineys, like Prince John always wanting more money from those who didn't have money.

I mean, seriously, Republicans drive this country into the dirt, then they point fingers at Obama, and other Democrats for failing to live up to their promises, rather than take responsibility fo theri actions... like how they say, "Obama didn't inherit a bad econom,y he created i!" But, WHO was sitting in the White House, as Commander-in-Chief, when the recession first hit us in 2007? Hmm? Who refused to offer aid to the victims of Katrina, as well as accept aid from ally countries who wanted to help? Who got us into war with the Middle East because of 9-11? And aside from him, who's always wanting to take money and income away from middle and lower class Amiercans? Who's always trying to do away with benefits like Social Security and Food Stamps? Who ***** on the poor and puts more cash into the pockets of people like Trump? I mean, I'm glad Obama's healthcare has been appealed, because that is going to ensure everybody in America, inspite of their income, with the same quality of medical attention and treatment, whereas Republicans wanted to go back to the days where a rich guy with a papercut gets better attention than the poor guy who was shot int he chest and was fighting for his life.

So... yeah... it's a great, big, wonderful world we live in... I feel sorry for people in different countries who believe in the fairy tale that America is the land of opportunity... like that episode of the Chipmunks where The Chipettes were babies, fleeing Australiafor America, and thinking they were in the wrong place, because they didn't see any streets that were paved in gold.

As rough as we have it, we're ten times more fortunate than most of the world. It's easy to forget that.

But Newsmanfan makes a great point, all these "current events" have been building up for decades, silently waiting to burst. Plus we keep voting in the same two corrupt parties and then wondering why nothing ever seems to change.

Yes, but one corrupt party came up with the cockamamie "Trickle Down" theory that doesn't work. Say what you will, at least Clinton left us with a considerable chunk of change with his tax increases that the last guy blew. I mean, yeah... they both suck, but I am NO friend of anyone who wants favors for people who have the means to help themselves.

We're in the best economy we've had since Clinton left, companies are breaking record profits, CEO's are getting record pay, and at the same time the unemployment isn't budging. Something is painfully wrong here. The general public still thinks we're in a recession when nothing could be further from the truth YET they couldn't be more correct.

I've been saying since the Bush years, these companies beg for tax cuts and subsidiaries so they can invest in new technologies and promise jobs... but all they do is use it to fund moving overseas so they can get another tax loophole and use the rest to pad their profits when no one is actually buying anything. I keep seeing stores go under because no one's buying anything anymore. Prices keep going up. The poor can't compete or contribute to capitalism.

I'm sorry, but all the anti-Big government anti-socialists are angry at the wrong party. We have a HUGE government giving welfare checks to big companies. GE not only doesn't pay taxes, but gets more money from the government than it would have to pay. Why is the nation blind to this? The tax burden falls on us schmucks who barely can make ends meet and it goes to the companies that flip us off while they move the plant to a country known for human rights violations so they can pay slave wages and get more tax breaks? We actually PAY companies out of OUR tax dollars to make sure that CEO's get paid billions for making bad decisions?

How come everyone was in a huff when we had to bail out the banking industry and the motor manufacturing industry? We've been bailing out big business for years before that. And they weren't even failing and pulling the country down with them.

And what's the excuse? It's job killing. We haven't had any government work projects pass, they killed the tax break for small start up business bill, they refuse to have any clean air technology projects done... and not making sure big companies get borderline sexual monetary favors is the thing that's job killing?

The Reps are doing just what they were elected to do. Sucker people into voting for them so they can keep big business fat, lazy, and stupid while we get fed to them by the shovelful. That ISN'T capitalism.

Well it would have also been nice if Clinton could have taken care of that Bin Laden thing for us, instead of embarrassing himself and his office.

He actually tried to. The Reps wouldn't let him. in fact, the Reps were SO heckbent on impeaching him for lying about sex (A MAN?!? Lying about SEX?!?! egad! Someone needs to punish that guy while I go... uh.. not boff an intern) that any legislation passed about sending military to Afghanistan at that period in time would be stalled indefinitely. They even referred to it, once he announced it, as Wagging the Dog.

Of course, by that means, it would have been nice if we just gave the Russians Afghanistan instead of perpetuating the Cold War another decade and training the very same people who would later want to attack us.

it also would have been nice if Bush wasn't such a loyal lap dog to the wealthiest one percent and raised taxes to help pay for the wars he wanted the country to be blood thirsty enough to enter.

I don't deny that the Republicans obviously try to block the Democrats. But I do not buy that the Democrats are just so eager to do the right thing by us if only they were allowed to. It's just easier for them to have the best excuse in the world every time, "Waaaa! I tried, they won't let me!"

And the impeach wouldn't have happened if Clinton hadn't been such a fool in the first place, period.

Definitely can't argue with that.

In politics, especially America's checks and balances, if a major side won't let you do something, they won't let you do it no matter how much you beg and plead. Yes, we should have nipped him in the bud 2 years before 9/11 happened, but there was no way he could if he was constantly blocked due to a major conspiracy to get him impeached for basically getting some one the side, like EVERYONE that was persecuting him was doing.

The president and, of all people, the wife of Jay Leno were trying to bring the plight of Afghan women to the attention of the public, but the public would rather be distracted by Clinton's sexual deviancy brought to the attention of a country of sexual deviants by sexual deviant politicians. In fact, I only remember hearing about Afghan women at the time from a teacher who had a student write a report on it. So let's face it, it's everyone's fault for dropping that ball.

That said, Clinton raised the heck out of taxes, but let a LOT of right wing pro-big business ideas in as well. Like the whole FCC deregulation thing. Still not a fan of letting him pass that.

I'll just say that my eyes were opened to this when I worked as a temp in a bank. I filled out the "waaah, we earn mostly cash and we couldn't possibly keep up with it all, despite the fact we print out RECEIPTS an' stuff, so we shouldn't have to get taxed" paperwork myself.
