Questions about MC as a Forum

Hello everyone,
Just wanted to say hello to everyone and also ask for your help! As fellow muppet lovers, we decided to join this forum as part of a "digital ethnography" school project. Our goal is to observe the forum as a "digital community", meaning to look at the forum as a whole, activities (such as posting, replying, etc.), language, rituals, and most importantly the members. We both are big Muppet fans, so we are looking foreward to participating in the forums as well. Most of our information will come from reading forum threads and posts, but we would love to hear your personal opinions as well! What do you like about the forum? What do you think the main purpose of the forum is (what do YOU use the forum for?) Is there anything unique about Muppet Central Forum? Is there any users who you notice posting more than others? Any information at all would greatly help! We both look foreward to talking with everyone and joinin in some of the discussions.

1. What do you like about the forum? Mainly that there's really no other like it... so many forums are so impersonal, or are full of trolls and such, but Muppet Central is really like instant family... a great, big, dysfunctional, cyber family.
2. What do you think the main purpose of the forum is (what do YOU use the forum for?) I believe the main purpose of this forum, obviously, is to gather Muppet fans of all ages, all countries, all cultures, all corners of the world together in one place... sometime that's hard to do in real life... in real life, you often put up with other people who tease you for liking "baby" stuff... but you come to MC, and realize everyone else has been down that same road, and knows what it's like. As for personal use, I use MC as a virtual hang-out... MC really is a bunch of swell eggs, though some of the eggs are rather cracked.
3. Is there anything unique about Muppet Central Forum? Please refer to my first answer.
4. Is there any users who you notice posting more than others? We have several members who post here on a daily basis... some on semi-regular basis... and some who come by only once a year to wish their best friend happy birthday, and vice-versa. Just about each section of this forum has its own avid posters... Muppet enthusiasts, Fraggle enthusiasts, Sesame enthusiasts, popular fanfiction writers and fan art creators, muffiners, ziffelers, thread killers, thread hijackers, etc.

Hi Kelsey & Dean, welcome to the boards!

1. What do you like about the forum? I've been a member of this forum for almost four years now (but I've been a lurcher since 2005 or 2004, depending on when I discovered the internet for the first time), but that's beside the point. It's just that I've joined *many* online forums over the years and MC is the only one I've actually stuck to (gee, you'd be lucky if I posted just a few things on the others). It's where fans of all ages can connect and discuss thir passion for the work of Henson, but it can also be seen as -and this applies to me- a home away from home (...even though I'm at home now and I'm on MC at this very-- er, you get me ;3). I like how different each member is, and how we can break certain barriers -regarding age and the like- by talking and just having fun.
2. What do you think the main purpose of the forum is (what do YOU use the forum for?) A forum is for a group of individuals to unite through sharing a specific intrest. It's where we can share out views and aknowledge the opinion's other others, and make friends along the way (oh lord, that sounds so heartwarming...).
3. Is there anything unique about Muppet Central Forum? It's different to any other forum I've joined because the spirit of Jim Henson is very evident here, and it's very community-minded. All kinds are excepted here too, so it's okay if you're a little on the eccentric side, like myself.
4. Is there any users who you notice posting more than others? Oh, definately. I'm up to 4,000+ posts and compared to many members i don't post much (I go on MC on a -generally speaking, maybe with the exception of weekends- daily basis, but I don't necessarily spend all day on the forum and there have been times in the past when I've had a break, which can last up to months). As Snowth said, there are people who post a lot in certain threads, or exclusively in just certain catagories. Personally, I post most in Muppets/SSt sections, but I also post a lot in "general discussion" and "friends & family", because I like to keep in touch with my fellow MCians. =)
