Waldorf's performer in Muppets Tonight?

Does anyone know why Kevin Clash performed Waldorf on the first episode of Muppets Tonight instead of Dave?

Most likely because for some reason or other Dave couldn't be on set when they taped those scenes and they forgot to have him loop the lines in post.
