Who are your favorite cartoon writers?

I really like Tom Ruegger's work on Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, Histeria, Animalia, and Yogi's Treasure Hunt. And how his 3 sons help out with voicework. Tom knows how to create and write such great cartoon series.

Earl Kress who also wrote for Animaniacs and Yogi's Treasure Hunt.

Sherri Stoner who wrote for Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, Animalia, and Casper and also provides the voice of Slappy Squirrel.

Paul Dini who wrote for Tiny Toons and Batman The Animated Series.

Savage Steve Holland and Bill Kopp who created and written almost every episode of Eek the Cat and provide voices. I also like Bill's work on Mad Jack the Pirate and Tom and Jerry, the Fast and the Furry.

Doug Langdale who wrote for Earthworm Jim and Dave the Barbarian. I can usually recognize his style of humor.

Mark Evanier who wrote for both Garfield series as well as Mother Goose and Grimm. I like Mark's style of humor too.

Richard Mueller who wrote episodes for Attack of the Killer Tomatoes along with the live action series, Married With Children.

I don't typically know writers' names. However, I sigh happily with just about everything of Paul Dini's -- he made HARLEY, for crying out loud, LOL.

I really REALLY want to see the two work on another project together. Eek the Cat was an amazing show, and it's a shame that Steve just does directing stuff for Disney (as far as I know, and that was years ago since I heard it). Bill is great too, and he can be great on his own... but the 2 need to come back and work on some epic project somehow.
Doug Langdale who wrote for Earthworm Jim and Dave the Barbarian. I can usually recognize his style of humor.
I was very disappointed when I found out he created Teamo Supremo. I never liked that show, and the goody-goodiness of the heroes bogged down what would otherwise be a good show. I mean, considering how great EWJ, Darkwing Duck (He wrote a few of those), and Dave the Barbarian turned out.

There are just so many greats... I might as well add Bill Scott, Chris Heyward, aim MacGeorge (who only worked on George of the Jungle) and all the greats who worked with the Jay Ward team. Now they were writers that set the standard for future cartoonists and cartoon writers. And there are so many of them that hold up that same level of humor.

However, I sigh happily with just about everything of Paul Dini's -- he made HARLEY, for crying out loud, LOL.
Harley has to be the only time a character made for a cartoon version of a comic book to ever get included back into the character's canon. That's how great Dini was in creating that character. It's a shame that they couldn't do the same thing with The Tick. Saban (and now Disney) own the characters specifically used for the show. Shame... I LOVE Sewer Urchin.

Really... so many greats that have been named, too many to list... Mike Maltese just popped into mind....

Yes, I like Bill Scott's writing style too along with being a great voice artist. That fast paced humor and dialogue on Rocky and Bullwinkle was just great.

Yes, after Eek was canceled, Savage Steve Holland did work for shows like Sabrina the Animated Series, The Puzzle Place, and Stripperella.

Other great cartoon writers I like to mention are...

Jeffrey Scott who wrote episodes for The Muppet Babies.

Mo Willems who was a writer and cartoonist for Sesame Street and got to create and write his own cartoons like the Off Beats and Sheep in the Big City. Plus Muppeteer, Joey Mazzarino wrote some episodes for Sheep.

Ew, cool, and REAL Ew. Seems that his talent is squandered on shows that really don't deserve it. Sabrina was an alright show I guess, but it really didn't scream funny. I DID like the episode where they become a band and Weird Al Yankovic has a cameo as himself parodying the group's song (a gag the Simpsons would steal ten years later). But over all, it wasn't the best thing they could have done. The less said about Stripperella the better. But Puzzle Place is one of those great shows that embody what Sesame and Henson are all about, and are lovingly inspired by them... (as opposed to any old puppet show that thinks it's the muppets or Sesame Street).

Meanwhile, Bill went on to the wonderfully madcapped Mad Jack the Pirate and Toonsylvania.

Larry DiTillio who wrote some of the best episodes of He-Man and She-Ra. He also worked on Best Wars and Peter Pan and the Pirates among others.
