Could the Invisible Ice Cream Cone have been real?

While watching the "invisible ice cream cone" sketch, I have been wondering if the invisible ice cream cone was actually a scam. On one hand, when Ernie asks Lefty what flavor it is, Lefty thinks for a second before saying "chocolate", and when Ernie mentions his favorite flavor, Lefty just happens to have another invisible ice cream cone in that flavor (and he jsut happened to know that THAT was the correct cone?). But then again, Ernie takes it, and it looks like he was licking it... If it wasn't real, then Ernie wouldn't have been able to feel and taste it. But he's holding it, apparantly tasting it, and doesn't ask why he can't taste it.

The way i always thought of it was that it was a scam and Ernie was wise to it (don't kid a kidder as it were) hence paying for it with an "invisible nickel". Ernie's licking it happily as he exits was just another little dig at Lefty.

Hmm, I never thought of that. Though I did start thinking that if Ernie's invisible nickle were real then Lefty should have felt it, even if he didn't see it (and also, Ernie just happened to have an invisible nickle when he had just learned what invisible meant).

It was a scam unless Lefty had stolen the invisible ice cream cone from Muppet Labs and was trying to profit from poor Bunsen and Beaker on the black market.
