Microsoft Not Amused by Family Guy, Pulls Plug on Sponsorship

Apparently, Microsoft decided to add to its troubles by yanking away its Family Guy ad campaign. Family Guy is largely hit-or-miss in the comedy department, but one thing for certain is that they offend *everyone* equally. It's always been a rude show.

This is in a long line of bad decisions by the company. Vista threw so much mud on the image of the company, and then they tried to revive their name by creating unfunny ads by once popular personality Jerry Seinfeld, and now this.

I'm a PC user because I disagree with the Apple model of business, but that doesn't mean I'm a big Microsoft fan. Both brands have proven to be quite oppressive IMHO! I hope this new bad move creates a new popular competitor operating system to Windows. I'd personally like to see both Gates and Jobs get one-upped by a newcomer.

Anyway, what a terrible move by Microsoft!

I guess it would help to be a fan of Family Guy to feel the same way about Microsoft's "terrible" move, wouldn't it?

I like all types of animation comedy from Foster's Home and Invader Zim to Family Guy and South Park. I like that Seth MacFarlane offends all groups equally. I’m a free sprit that way (even with the crude humor).

I think FG is funny (most of the time) and it has quite a following regardless of its premature cancellation a decade ago. Matter of opinion, but what is not is that Microsoft's decision won't help them sell Windows 7 to their intended demographic. They've just set themselves up to be the butt of many jokes for years to come.

The show itself must be major league offensive, because those commercials were G-rated, bland corporate kissy kissies. Even The Simpsons royally p.o'd their sponsers worse... making a terribly unfunny joke about Butterfingers and losing endorsements.

And really, how can you not know about the "insensitive jokes" about all that stuff listed? The show has ALWAYS done that, even before cancellation. Who can forget the Anne Frank cutaway where Peter was eating potato chips, or the cutaway where Hitler was still alive, and he was a buttkissing effeminate talk show host. Heck, they've been making fun of deaf people since the second season (catch the greased up naked deaf guy... and he became a recurring character too). But I'm glad to see that kind of off the wall offensive humor back on a Family Guy project. I am so sick of the new jokes that appeal to stoners and people that think Adult Swim is the highest form of humor, reusing gags that weren't funny enough the first time.

I saw the show improving with the multiverse episode... I guess like the Simpsons, since they have so many episodes that come out, they just toss them together last moment.

And what makes you think he's gonna be incorruptible as well?

This begs FG to do a parody of those tedious "I'm a Mac and I'm a PC" commercials.... I've been waiting for someone to take those to the floor. I love what they did with those bad, poorly drawn anti-drug commercials.

Here's a series of Family Guy Action Figures that's been out for years! How could Microsoft not know? They should have just let the ads kind of fizzle out on their own and not renew instead of affirming just how out of touch they are.

Last year's Gay Peter episode was very offensive, but also hilarious. I loved it. They make fun of everybody and have such an obvious, yet scarcastic, love for the Muppets. :super:

I personally don't think it will offend them one way or the other.

All I can think of is that someone in the company got a phone call from someone who got a phone call from someone who got a phone call disapproving of the something, and dropping them out of fear of long shot bad press. Like somehow they'd think that sponsoring an offensive show would make them approve of offensive humor... leading down to saying their selling a product that promotes bad ideals....

In short, they're afraid that someone, some where, some how won't buy a PC if they get offended.

Either that or they basically didn't even bother watching FG and just latched on to the hottest thing possible with college students. Now I have visions of Monty Burns saying "Smithers! What is the most popular televisual animated 'sit' com with the fur coat and straw hatted crowd of goldfish swallowers today?"

Why are they surprised? Did they have NO idea what Family Guy was before sponsering them? "Offensive" jokes are about 89 percent of that show. It's funny at times, I watch it occasionally just for the Muppet references.
