I agree with what drtooth originally said... I just find some of the attitudes a bit too condescending. Also, everything is so over the top. It's cute but not really my first choice or anything.

It's a little easier to be objective now that we're several episodes into the season. There are some pulpy elements and most fans aren't responding to those. I hope they get cleared away for the goodness that is the other 90% of the program. I don't buy that it's anything near the pulp level of Ugly Betty, but it could be reconfigured a teensy bit. It's still my favorite new show this year...until the V miniseries hits.

They've already started to plan themes like an all Madonna music episode. Hope they focus on the early stuff. In the end the show makes me smile. They can make a lame song that I'd never listen to - fun! :super:

I've been watching the show as well.
The first few episodes were great, I loved their song choices and their presentation of them.
I find as the show moves on, the writers are just trying too hard to make it relatable to absolutely everyone. They've changed the definition of what a glee club is.
My understanding is that it's supposed to be an a capella group, with limited accompaniment, while each episode they're adding more and more instruments.
I don't know.
My other gripe is that clearly everyone is lip-synching when they do sing. It would have been nice to have actors that could sing as well.

I only saw the pilot episode, but Glee doesn't do a thing for me. I've lost interest in High School Musical all together. Glee isn't as interesting as I thought it would be.

LOVE this show!

Yes, it's cheesy and the stereotypes are overexaggerated, but that's why it's awesome. It's so borderline terrible it rocks. Plus, every episode is a mini-musical. Yes, I'm a teenage girl Broadway nerd, but that's it's niche. I don't get the people who are in love with Finn, but the show itself is great.

(I love Kurt. :flirt:)

Actually, the actor that plays Kurt is one of the few male cast members playing close to his age.

Kurt / Chris Colfer (19)
Finn/ Cory Monteith (27)
Puck / Mark Salling (27)
Will (the teacher) / Matthew Morrison (31)

Puck and Will are my faves. They kind of represent opposites of the show. And it's funny that the teacher is the age of his students!

Still, there seem to have been more Glee club additions to meet the cultural quotas. If they're ever given something more to do they could prove to be interesting as well.

Of course the singing is recorded on a soundtrack first. That's common practice for all shows (even the Muppet Show). I must admit that they are over-producing the instrumental accompaniment. Maybe they should take that back a notch.

I love it and I just want to remind everyone that without High School Musical we would not have this brilliant musical dramedy.

Oh, I'm all for pre-recording. Its just the way its done in the business.
I just wish the actors would actually sing the songs when they were recorded. Everytime they "sing" on the show, they sound like a different person each time.

I think so. It's being promoted as such. Most of the actors reportedly have a background in music and theater. Sometimes the vocals just seem a little over-produced, but it's most likely the cast members singing. Of course, they probably have unseen backup too.

HSM was very canned and over-produced, but that was the style they chose (and partly why it didn't hit a chord with me). Glee wants to be grittier, but is becoming a little glossier than it probably should. I blame Fox for tinkering. I hope they pull back a little.
