Thanks for the article.

How did you mannage to find it?

It's hard to come across old mewspaper or magazine articles online since or at least in my experience most don't have them online going back this far.

That's for sure- if you can't find old articles online, your best bet is to visit a large library and go through their computer listings or card catalouge. I was able to find many Sesame St.-related articles this way. It would probably work better if you visited a larger library, since most smaller libraries don't have a huge collection of newspapers and magazines.

Thankfully, Google is putting many of these old articles online, so that helps a bit!

Yeah, I found that using google news, I've found articles there from that go back to the early 20th century. Sometimes you have to pay, but that wasn't the case here.

I just realized, we've now narrowed down our search for "Mount Snuffleupagus!" If the whole series was filmed in Kawai, then Kawai is likely the island where the mountain is. (That's not too specific, I know, but at least it's something. )

TV Guide once did an article abolut the episodes as well. Speaking of which, wasn't there a rumor not long ago about those shows being released on DVD.

(Sherlock Hemlock theme music plays)...

Egad!

I've suspected it's on Kauai and this article has brought me even closer to finding it. I've been wondering where that mountain is for quite some time and doing some more research about that.

As Roosevelt Franklin said: "I've looked around and here's what I've found":

During their week in Hawaii, Big Bird and Snuffy see King Kong's Profile, Mt. Hole-in-the-Mountain and the Sleeping Giant (Mt. Nounou).

All of these mountains are on Kauai, some are not that far from Kapaa. (There's an airport in that city...could that be where the airport scenes were filmed?)

I emailed a friend of Caroll Spinney's and Buffy Saint-Marie. Caroll Spinney doesn't remember where Mount Snuffy is. Buffy Sainte-Marie emailed me back and here's part of what she had to say:

Yes I did meet everybody at he airport and we did much of the shooting in my back yard. I’m not sure but I think the picture you sent is a funny angle view of the mountains in Anahola, (just past Kapaa going towards Hanalei) or maybe a little further along the same Kuhio Highway near Moloaa. My friend Chuck is a cyclist and he thinks so too, and I am copying this message to him in case he happens to come upon the view you seek.

So it's a real mountain for sure, not a fake one!

Are there any Hawaiian MC members? If so, feel free to clue us in. (Never heard of the Kuhio Highway...gotta look that up)...

The search continues...:search:

...and thanks for getting that article!
