How do you give stock fur matted appearance?

hey guys and gals just wondering how to give fur a matted look if any one knows can you point me in the right direction

You get a metal comb, like a lint remover brush, and hack comb it.

Basically imagine that the fur is soil and the comb is a rake.Hit the comb into the fur and drag a bit.Then lift up the comb and keep repeating.Like teasing hair.You could look for a dog comb in a pet shop or department store.

I have mixed a half water and half elmers glue to make a kind of starch, paint it on and then comb it. It stiffens the fur a bit and allows you to rough it up and stuff.

I was advised to use watered down glue, or hair gel, I never used it but in theory it would work.
I wouldn't use this method for matting fur. For holding a shape in the fur it is a geat method, but not distressing it. Boiling works, any type of controlled heat works. I've even thrown it into the dryer for a while (no really recommended) and that worked for me. But I agree with Tom. Try Boiling a swatch and see how you like it.
