Since we're talking about Fraggle Rock, I'm reminded of the episode "Believe It or Not." Ma Gorg believes Skinfrith is a monster, therefore, that's how he appears to her. But the only reason he looks like a monster is because she's decided he is. But she's wrong.

Agreed. This is why I loathe parodies that take beloved icons or programs & twist them into something they aren't meant to be (MadTV, SNL, & RC). I am afraid people would misunderstand the concept of the original program (or would misunderstand the beliefs of certain icons) if parodies like the aforementioned are the only way to give said programs and icons exposure to the modern audiences.

I don't really have the same worries about parodies, as long as they're remotely clever. Many people make these parodies out of love for the product.

But there isn't much of any other way to take it honestly, dragging everyone down and saying how bad the world is and just dwelling on it and then adding swearing to the mix is not a likeable thing to many people, most of all if you don't like jaded humor to began with.
Where as Skinfriths' real self is a little bunny thingie with pigtails, South Park is just as unlikable in its true form as it is at its worst to me. It's really not a matter of making a mountain out of a mole hill IMHO

Obviously there is, if I and so many of its fans see it (and they're not all immature people ). The fraggles used to argue that no one could ever love a Gorg. They later learned differently.

Honestly, that's not what they do. They point out problems, and they offer solutions in the end. It's not just dragging and dwelling.

Example: People believing Peppermint Patty & Marcie Johnson are lesbians. Or people believing that Walt Disney cryogentically froze himself. Or people believing that a munchkin hung himself on the Oz set. Or people believing that when Jim (or Richard) died, his characters would too (in that they wouldn't be used).

I don't want FR's real meaning to be muddled by a RC parody that will--no doubt--distort the true loveable-ness of the program.

Thanks, it's good to have examples. I think this is a matter of cause and effect. People were making those jokes for years (especially the Walt Disney one, that's really old). I think the TV parodies are just reacting to those jokes. They didn't start them.

No. But why start them at all? It leaves a bad reputation for those franchises, IMO.

I mean I could go right now and find countless sites showing how people dislike certain companies or just certain characters.

Heck, DA--deviantART, that is--is crawling with people with stick up their baloobius' in regards to others' ways of thinking.

People outright draw incestral porn, draw kill art, and draw straight characters as gay or lesbo (not that there's anything wrong with being that way, but when a character is created in a certain way, I just like things to stay true to that character, including sexual orientation).

What worse is when official companies start doing it--such as Archie making a false Sonic (Scourge) and having him hit on & probably even do some other "things" to every freakin' female in the comics (thus, making Sonic himself appear to be something of a pimp, like that of WWE's Godfather)--for it really burns me up inside!
