I've just watched it and I really don't know what I thought. I mean, in all honesty, there were moments when I smiled and thought 'this ain't too bad' and then there were moments when my mind just went blank. Everyone will have their own expectations of what they wanted to see and I tried to watch it without prejudice. Overall my feelings were:
I really thought Kermit and Ashley were great, thats the biggest positive from the special. I also thought Miss Piggy (the character) was performed almost to Piggy perfection (But don't get me started on the absolutely shocking puppet incarnations!). Speaking of the puppets, I didn't like the new Dr. Teeth, the puppet seemed well off, in colour and everything and Janice had a fat neck. The new (Tom Hanks 'castaway') Animal is really growing on me and really seems fitted to the character - who was performed brilliantly! I didn't like elements of the Swedish Chefs performance (what was with the English?) and Gonzo seemed...tamed, but I think that may have been the embarrassing writing.
Overall, in a positive way, it was a great exercise in Muppet exposure and certainly didn't do any harm. And if it weren't for the Disney Channel nepotism, it could have a 'fairly' enjoyable show. If the direction shown in the recent youtube videos is where the Muppets are going, I really feel confident that we will see them back on television and back to their former glory in the near future (Disney just need to understand them more!).
