Two '20s items I can think of is the book The Great Gatsby (absolutely wonderful book) and the 1929 Marx Brothers film The Cocoanuts, which is as funny today as it was then. Plus it's one of the first talkies, but it still gives you an idea of what the '20s were like (just before they were about to end).
I agree, Gatsby is a wonderful book, but I enjoy all of Scott Fitzgerald's work.

The Cocoanuts was based on the Marx Brothers' 1925 Broadway hit of the same name...the movie was filmed at Paramount's Astoria Studios on Long Island during the day, while the brothers performed Animal Crackers on Broadway at night (which was of course their second feature).

If you notice, the newspapers in the film are soaking wet; that's because of the early microphones used, which were so sensitive, they would pick up the rustling of the paper.

And Zeppo rocks! I'm a big fan of Zeppo!

Groucho said in later years that Zeppo was actually the funniest of all the brothers, but he obviously never had a chance to show his funny side, as he was always cast either as Groucho's underling, or as the romantic lead.

Apparently during the run of Animal Crackers, Groucho had to miss a few performances. So Zeppo put on the greasepaint mustache, and played Captain Spaulding. The audience was none the wiser, assuming they were watching Groucho!

Ah yes, the roaring 20's! When my grandmother was just a twinkle in her mum's eye. The good ol' days! They had a horse named Daisy. She liked to eat sugar cubes.

Yup, I love that story! (Though I'm partial to Chico, I like to hear about Zep too  ).

Did you know that in Animal Crackers, during the first black out scene, it's actually Zeppo standing in for Groucho (who was apparently sick)? At one point when there's a bit of light in the shot, you can see that it's his profile. There's also some discussion as to whether that's Zeppo's voice as well (personally I think there's a good chance it could be!)

Yup, and about The Cocoanuts, that's true about getting the papers and maps all wet so they didn't make too much noise. Amazing though how quickly Hollywood adapted to talkies.

(Btw, a 1930s thread was started if you want to discuss Marx Brothers  )

It's apparent that people spoke a foreign language back than that I've heard Fred speak on Scooby Doo.

Yes, the raccoon coat! One time some joker sold me a live one, although I didn't know it was alive until I hopped into my Model-T, and the thing starting biting my neck! Yowza! I kept it anyway, had a lot of laughs with the guys.
Ahh the 1920s...I remember then well...The first year I was reincarnated as a Raccoon coat...Obviously I didn't survive long...
