But "kids" is to broad a statement. Heck, my parents call me a "kid" still, even though I am 23 years old.

It was geared towards kids
The original show was meant for adults. The management had Ruebens' alter it slightly to make it kid-friendly.

and his arrest didn't happen until after the show ended.
Actually, it occured during the height of his popularity. Heck, the only reason he was arrested was because the cops who busted him recognized him as the Pee-Wee character, despite the fact that Ruebens was unshaven and wasn't wearing Pee-Wee's signature suit-and-tie combo. I mean, to have a celebrity in a adult-oriented place "taking care of business" was bad enough for the times, but to have a celebrity there that was loved by millions of children? That was career suicide, plain and simple.

And I remember those funny lines Pee Wee used on his show.

"Connect the dots. LA LA LA LA!"

"Well why don't you marry it?"

"I don't know, can you?"

Thankfully, they have the episodes out on DVD.

Actually, the show WAS ending, and it was abruptly pulled from reruns. And replaced wih that Meh Raggidy Ann and Andy show. That was traumatizing (it getting pulled).
