XERUS'S VOICE ARTIST FOCUS:

Today's V/A focus is that classic cartoon cat, the Pink Panther and his cartoon pals such as The Ant and the Aardvark, The Inspector, Tijuana Toads, Hoot Kloot, The Dogfather, Roland and Ratfink, Misterjaw, The Blue Racer, and Crazy Legs Crane. While the Pink Panther usually stayed silent in most of his cartoons, there were rare cartoons when he spoke. Voiced by Paul Frees in one episode, Rich Little in another, and in the 90's revival series, the pink one was voiced by Matt Frewer.

What a great cast! I used to love The Pink Panther!

I was always convinced that the Aardvark was voiced by Jackie Mason. I only found out in recent years that it was a (rather impressive) impersonation. Apparently, Byner used a Jackie Mason impression for the Aardvark and a Dean Martin impression to the Ant.

I don't know how true it is, but I heard Rich Little actually did the voice of the Pink Panther in a short lived experiment to make him talk. I've seen these cartoons and can vouche for them, but I can't tell if they really were Rich Little at the top of my head.

I know Paul Frees did the "additional voices" in one of those, though.

At first Friz Freleng wanted to experiment by making the Pink Panther speak in a couple of episodes. Then later, Friz decided he preferred the suave silent panther so the voice was taken away.
