I am trying to make a collar for a punk rock puppet. I can't seem to get the spikes to look right. Anyone have any suggestions for an effective way to make this accessory?

Have you looked in any pet stores? I imagine they'd have some nice spiked collars for dogs that would be usable.

awesome idea, I should have thought of that. I have been trying to cut make up sponges into perfect cones out of foam not so easy. I will let you know how it goes.

I know JoAnn Fabrics has a black vinyl trim with eyelets, they might also have one with spikeys.

Then there's the almighty goth store (Hot Topic?), but you'll pay a bundle, I'm sure. Eh yeah, I'd go with the dog collar. The only problem with that would be the cost vs. size.

*sigh* back to my chickens.

They do sell dog collars with the spikes but they can be pricey. Depending on how much you want to spend and how hard you want to look, they are a good option.

I recently went out looking for the same thing for a punk orangutan puppet I have. I ended up using a $10 belt with studs that I found at Walmart. I was able to get a neck collar and two wrist bands from it.

You could always make it, but I was in a rush and didn't feel like it myself.

This isn't meant to come off as snyde but how about just buying a spiked collar? Boston has to have some kind of a punk scene and if push comes to shove you could always go to Hot Topic to pick something like that up -- even if they don't have the collars themselves they'll have the spikes (at least they do at the one in the mall near me)

Thanks for the advice, I actually opted for no spikes and built a little vest with a skull and cross bones on the back instead. There are pics of the finished puppet in the punk rock puppet thread.
