I recently saw a You Tube clip from Taz-Mania, and I'd like to know more about that particular episode. The scene doesn't make much sense to me, at least not when out of context.

Anyway, this scene has Mr. Thickly's head and hands stuck in the holes of a wooden board (I don't know what it's called). I think Thickly was wearing a tasmanian devil suit. Anyway, Taz and Wendell keep stuffing food into Thickly's mouth and saying "happy birthday!". Wendell is wearing a boy scout uniform in this scene as well. Anyway, does anybody know what this epsiode is about, and it's title? And the context, of course.
I don't know the title of the episode but the plot was basically a spoof of films like "The Fugitive" and "North by Northwest" Taz had been accused of stealing and eating a birthday cake but he was actually innocent so he kept trying to catch the shadowy villain who was the real culprit while avoiding Wendell who was the officer trying to arrest him.

In the end Taz catches the bad guy and reveals it to be Thickly in a Taz suit. Thickly confesses to eating the cake but states it shouldn't matter because it was his birthday cake so he didn't actually steal it. Taz and Wendell are still mad that he put them through all that for nothing so they decide to give him his "Just deserts"

Was there any explanation given as to why Mr. Thickly was dressed as Taz in the first place?

Well, it seems that Taz-Mania (as well as Looney Tunes shrts in general) can no longer be found at in2tv. A few months ago there were several episodes of Taz-Mania uploaded on youtube, but they have since been removed (it's interesting that youtube no longer has any complete episodes, yet the site does have short clips from the show).

Anyway, I'd like to give my thoughts on some of the episodes I saw when clips were there:
  • To Catch a Taz - this is the episode that was recently discussed that ended with Taz and Wendell shoving food into Mr. Thickley's mouth. It was good, but also a bit surreal. The format is similar to the Taz-Mania theater episodes.
  • Woeful Wolf - I was expecting this to be a 30-minute episode that should have just been a regular shorter one. The firs thalf does get tiresome, but it gets a lot better and interesting once Taz catches Wendell.
  • Devil of a Job - this episode should have been the first one, as it combines all three recurring situations (Taz' home life, his job at the hotel, and the outback), and also introduces the hotel and it's staff. Bushwacker Bob's meanness here is hysterical. It's a shame that it never actually shows Taz getting his job as a bellhop (just as a tourist attraction)
  • Mum 'N Taz - I don't know if the title is a reference to something, but it's also a great episode. Probably one of the few where Mum has a starring role.
  • Ready, Willing, and Unable - Mr. Thickley teams up with Bull Gator and Axyl. It's very funny when Bushwacker Bob gets caught in the trap at the end.
  • Ask Taz - I didn't see the end of this one, but it's very funny how Taz answwers every question with "Taz hate water", and everybody is satysfied with that answer.
  • Of Bushrats and Hugh - I don't think it was that good.
  • No Time for Christmas - One of the ebst episodes, with the whole original cast present, even though some only appear at the end, without lines. It's interesting how almost every character who has a featured scene is shown thanking Taz for the present Taz got them (most of which are related to somethign about themn in the episode), yet Constance is just in the background during the finale. She had a big scene, where she complained about needing a new duster.
  • Kidnapped Koala - I had expected Constance to unwillingly get kidnapped by Bull and Axyl, as opposed to her voluntarily being captured.
  • Taz-Manian Theater - A funny episode with a funny ending.
  • The Pied Piper of Taz-Mania - The bushrats come to the Hotel Tasmania. It's funny how Taz speaks coherently at the beginning, yet struggles to warn Bob about the milk. It's also funny how Bob is satysfief with it, even though the Bushrats are repulsed by the smell.
  • It's a Taz's Life - When I saw the title I expected it to be a parody of It's a Wonderful Life, not a This is Your Life sendup. It's still good, though I wish it had appearances by Bushwacker Bob and Buddy Boar.
  • Wacky Wombat - Willie Wombat's first appearance, which isn't as good as his others (and I forget the titles of those)
  • Francis Takes a Stand - Francis X. Bushllad opens a lemonade stand and actually decides to take a break from hunting Taz. It's funny when Francis unknowlingly calls himself, as well as when his nickle get's taxed by the government.
  • Gone with the Windbag - I guess it was inevitable that Foghorn Leghorn make an appearance on Taz-Mania (since Robert McKimson was the primary director of both characters).

I also saw some others, but I'll stop my list here for now.

Man... remember when Warner Bros animation was as big a force as Disney? And we had all those wonderful cartoons like Tiny Toons, Taz-mania and so on? Well back before they made abhorrent failures like Coconut Fred and Loonatics then started moaning and whining about how they have to shut down their TV animation department, since they hired a know nothing clock watcher to be in charge?

Yeah, I know... I woke up in a terrible mood.

Wow... that's so like them. Removing it from their free site, stomping down to youtube and pulling it off (apparently, that's considered stealing.... stealing from a big greedy pig that won't share, though) and NOT offering it in any way shape or form. They seem to have completely fallen back on their promise to look into other WB cartoons to release on DVD (that isn't a super hero DC comics thing, since that's the only thing they're making money off of now). And whatever happened to that massive cartoon super site they kept advertising in the past?

I love Taz-Mania! Great show! And I ALSO say "Blah Blah Blah, Yakkity Schmakkity" to this day! (If one doesn't know the show, they may not know how jolly that quote is!)

As for the whole "videos of shows that remain unreleased" being forced off youtube, I like what this person wrote next to the Sugar Bear cartoon they posted:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lP3MOfuA8o
And in case it's removed, here's what they wrote on that link:
"YouTube has been deleting a lot of videos because of claims of "copyright infringement". I ask you, HOW does it serve the public good when a video is deliberately prevented from being seen by anyone ever again? It's one thing if you are trying to make money from your own commercial releases and don't want it to be pirated, but in many cases, these videos AREN'T released in ANY commercial form (such as the "Star Wars Holiday Special") and it seems they deliberately just want to block you from ever seeing what they don't want you to see. Why? Who knows, but it seems to be pretty spiteful and selfish.

If there ever is a case of any of my videos being available in commercially-released form, I will gladly take them down from YouTube (and then go out and buy the video!). The videos I provide here are because they are not being shown anywhere else because the creators are being selfish, and that is the REAL crime, in my opinion."

The creators aren't even the selfish ones. It's the big fat bloated greedy entertainment conglomerates like Warners and Disney and above all Viacom that moan and groan and whine that no one's watching or buying newer stuff or that they're losing money or crap like that. I give credit to people like United media Legal and Entertainment Rights who allow the videos to stay up on the site as long as they have the "Contains Content from" disclaimers with links to the real sites. Why Warners, Disney, and Viacom don;t do this more themselves is beyond me, especially if they don't want to give the fans the options of buying the series or releasing it online by them selves on a video site that actually WORKS.

Now, a lot of companies are making strides. You can see some shows legally with the blessing of the companies. But said companies that don't are selfishly sticking away shows like Taz-Mania and putting it in a musty, damp basement so they can continue to bludgeon the idiotic masses with the same reality doctor judge shows over and over... all of which get big fat perfect season volumes, even if the show is a complete and utter failure that lasts 2 episodes.
