Of the ones specifically created for the show, I have to go with Pepe. He's one of the first Muppets that hit a chord with me.

Bill The Bubble Guy was kinda like the Muppets Tonight version of Lew Zealand The Boomerang Fish thrower.

I watched Muppets Tonight from the beginning. Happy to see the Muppets back in prime time. While it took some getting used to adjusting to the new format, eventually the show (and the new characters) grew on me. I do wish we saw more of the "stage" acts, though. Clifford would usually introduce an act, we'd see the very beginning of it, then we'd cut back to the control room. This was somewhat jarring at first, but again, I got used to it.

Anyway, the new characters I instantly warmed to were

Pepe
Dr. Phil Van Neuter (loved "Tales from the Vet")

I really like Seymour, Pepe, Nigel, Dr. Phil van Neuter, Bill the Bubble Guy, Zippety Zap, Craniac, and Carl.

I really liked mulch on the show even though he's a muppet show character, Dr. Phil, Johnny & Sal, Pepe, I realy liked the idea and design of the anouncer Bird character also.
They really should have had digit and leon in the controll room though.

You kinda have a point about mulch. Mulch was in The Muppet Show (Debbie Harry episode) and he did appear in "The Muppets Go To The Movies" where he was played by Jerry Nelson, But I feel like the character really took off by Kevin Clash for Muppets Tonight.
