This is getting a bit off subject, but I'm guessing the Guy Smiley game show about the letter E was Prarie's first appearance.

I can tell that, because I saw it on YT and she looked quite different. Besides, a modern Prarie would definately know about the letter E. (Hence her job in introducing the Letter of the Day) So I'm guessing in Prarie's first appearance she wasn't quite as smart.

Well also remember, that was in the early 70's. Back when Women were stereotyped on Television as not being as smart as men. I guess even Sesame Street did that to the Muppet women in the early years. Glad to see they gave Prarie equal rights over the years. BTW Prarie is one of those charachters like Sherlock Hemlock who was around a lot in the 70's. Was rarely seen during the 80's, and made a comeback in the early 90's.

Prairie is also the longest lasting of the female Muppets on Sesame Street. She was introduced in the early 70s and is still an active principle player today in 2006.

I think that Prairie Dawn started out as just a generic little girl without very much personality, much like Betty Lou and Farley. I wonder when she began to be more like a very intelligent, adult-like child? And was she this way when she began directing pageants?

In The Muppet Alphabet Album, she appeared in scenes between some of the songs, and her lines easily could have been given to other characters. On that album, she appeared in the What's My Letter? sketch, and then there were two other songs/ sketches featuring generic little girls who were also performed by Fran Brill. They were both credited as "A little girl", but the voices and personalities are both similar to Prairie Dawn's personality, at least her modern personality. I wonder why she wasn't just used in those sketches.

One song with Fran Brill's Prairie Dawn voice is "The Question Song." It was also made into a skit on the show, featuring a Lavender Anything Muppet girl with long brown hair and playing a guitar (Grover is there, too, of course).

When I was little and heard the song, I used to think it was Prairie Dawn singing it, or at least Betty Lou (who was sometimes performed by Fran Brill). I always found it really funny, and I am glad I saw the actual skit on Youtube. It was still funny!

That was a pretty common mistake. I remember one time in my chemistry class we were talking about Sesame Street for some reason or other and at the end of class, the teacher played a tape of SS songs. One of them was "The Question Song" and he said that it was Prarie singing. I didn't realize that it wasn't her, until recently when I saw it on You Tube.

I can't stand when people get these characters correct lol... i went as Oscar n Bruno... you wouldn't believe how many people thought it was Ernie in the can.

Growing up watching Sesame Street, i always thought Betty Lou n Priarie Dawn were the same... there weren't many differences... but today i see that P. Dawn seems to be the smarter type.
