Lemme just say, I'm sure that a LOT of artists (myself included) draw stuff that they wouldn't show anyone else. I remember Jim Davis said that he loved to doodle random crazy things, and some things he can't publish at all. There's a line from a Youtube poop I'd love to draw (I drew one from the same poop... the Herry and Grover talking about cake), but I really don't wanna use that sorta language. And frankly, you have to learn to draw a nude figure at some point to be able to draw the human body right. It's actually much easier to draw clothing that way, since you get the drapery right.
Exactly. Having a further understanding of the structure of the human anatomy helps with proportion and, as you said, how to draw clothes. I mean, even if a person's style isn't 100% realistic (I know mine's not) I still reckon learning how to draw the body and to study it's proportions is so beneficial for any artist.
And I can see where you're coming from when you say you draw things you wouldn't show others as I can relate to that. Pretty clean compared to most things out there, but I drew a picture of these these nazi women. Now, obviously this is going to get a reaction, some worse than others, as even my friend got these impressions that the picture was about praising these characters. But that wasn't the case, of coarse. I don't support nazi's at all, but I do aknowledge the fact that it's all part of history, and it's not like I portrayed these female characters as angels or whatever, they looked pretty grotesque. Some people would know where I'm coming from, while others would avoid that sort of thing all together.
As for coarse language, I generally don't use a lot of it in my art. I must say, I do use a number of innuendos, but an excessive amount of it foul language (esp. if it's just plain unnecessary, out of context stuff) doesn't suit my characters. Generally speaking my more random, spontaneous pictures are pretty clean, though. Funny to hear about Jim Davis though, I would've had *no* idea!
