Nice! So how does Harry Potter compare to the older fantasy trilogies?

On the subject of fantasy series, have any of you read the Warriors series by Erin Hunter? I recently started reading the first book, and I think it's pretty cool so far.
Also, have any of you read Guardians of Ga'Hoole? I haven't read that one yet, but it seems interesting.

I'm not familiar with those, but I'd definitely like to hear more!

TCM just showed 1970 feature film cartoon version of The Phantom Tollbooth. I saw it as a child, found it pretty strange. Watching it now, I think it's got a great message and the animation and music are amazingly beautiful.

In the end, all the characters were celebrating because "Rhyme and Reason reign once more. Sense and Sanity prevail." I intially wondered about this; it seemed to go against certainly the Muppet ideal of insanity and craziness being great things to strive for, hehe. Was the Phantom Tollbooth being stiff and conventional?

Well the more I thought about it, there was a different way of looking at this. The enemies in the story were the policeman who said everyone was guilty before a trial. Or the Languids who encouraged people to stop thinking and do nothing. And the rival kings who refused to agree to disagree. In a way, these are all forms of insanity, the bad kind, because they cause harm and suffering in the world. The Muppets would have been against all of these things. Yet they are the ones who are called "crazy."

So in that way, it's a good thing that "sense and sanity prevail." I guess it's all a matter of semantics--which is very appropriate to this story!

Well, I haven't read Guardians of Ga'Hoole yet, and all I know is that the main character is an owl, although it sounds pretty good.
I'm only on chapter 2 or 3 of the first book of Warriors, and this is basically what is going on:
The main plot is about feral cats who are divided into different "clans" (Thunder Clan, River Clan, etc.) and a cat named Rusty joins the Thunder Clan, but the others treat him like an outsider because he was a pet, and "doesn't have Warrior blood." It's a very interesting story so far.

Hello again everybody.

I've just recently finished reading Harry Potter entirely. So now I can say I've fully read the fantasy trilogy in my current signature. Isn't that great? :excited:
Nice work, Marty!

As for me, the Potter series is the only one I've really read end to end - I've skipped around some of the Narnia books, and I managed somehow or other to get through Lord of the Rings a while back.

Let's see, what fantasy series am I reading these days...well, I'm quite fond of the Green Rider books by Kristen Britain - in a nutshell, it's about a magical corps of mounted messengers. I've also taken a look through some of Marion Zimmer Bradley's Darkover books - they're not bad.

Nice job Marty. Let's see... What have I read?
Harry Potter, all 7 books, check.
The Chronicles of Narnia, 5 out of 7, missing The Magician's Nephew and The Last Battle.
Tolkien: The Hobbit, Silmarillion, The Lord of the Rings, check. Only missing The Children of Huren.
Bullfinch's Mythology and The Divine Comedy, easily the longest ever, but I love both.

Also read Carrie and It this summer for haunter research.
You know, what with trying to finish my work on the Muppet Listings 19, I should see what new novels have been released from Sue Graffton's Alphabet Murder Mysteries after R is for Ricochet.

With school security being what it is, Nekoshema, I'm amazed you guys were even able to get the water guns into school in the first place!

well, i'm canadian, and live in the country, so we only have drugs to really be concerned with [although there's danger everywhere these days] so we just put them in our bags, and after school, took them out and had the fight.

I think Harry Potter is my favourite even though Narnia is by far the lightest and easiest to read of the three. Some parts of Harry Potter do seem to be a little bit slow and dragged out particularly from book 4 onwards but if you persevere you find that there is still enough excitement to keep you interested. Lord of the Rings is the hardest of them all to read. I wouldn't say I wouldn't like to read it again one day, but I couldn't do it in an immediate hurry. I'd need a good long rest before doing so.

Good point - it used to be much simpler here, but as we all know, times have changed...

Even if that was the case at our school, I probably still wouldn't be able to do that without getting in trouble because my mom is one of the teachers at our school.:embarrassed::eek:
