i miss Richard, it's odd that i do, i never met him, and i didn't know anything about him till a few months ago, but i guess the shock of his death is new to me.
Nice to hear from you, Nekoshema! Same here, when I realized he had died, I listened to the Muppets differently. When I heared Scooter in "Saying Goodbye" I suddenly realized there was a person behind the character. It was very moving.

If you haven't seen it, there's this site for paying tribute to public figures who have passed away:

My dad was actually the person who posted:
"Richard lives on in our hearts. He left so many crazy and brilliant and funny memories to insure that. We'll always have the phrases "meep meep", "fer sure" and "my uncle owns the theatre" as some comfort."
Oh cool! And it takes a gifted performer to come up with so many lasting catch phrases.

 i'm sure you've seen it, but on youtube, did you see his closeing remarks at Jim Henson's funeral? in a way, it was like he was saying good bye, like he knew he would soon join Jim.

Absolutely - and it's been commented that of the Muppet performers, Richard seemed the most calm and at ease that day. And you're right - by that time, he knew that he was sick and that time was running out.

You really get the sense that he's got something important to say, and not much more time to say it in. For me, it was almost as if he was sitting down to write his last will - and in a way, that's part of what he was doing. His words of comfort to the audience are part of his legacy, his bequest, to the fans. That's the way I see it.

That is so touching. Gets me right in the heart.

BTW does Richard's niece still post at all? I never really got to know her and I'd like to PM her to chat.

Oh definitely, in fact I've shared the speech with two groups I've belonged to and they've both been amazed and tell me how much it inspired them in their lives.

same here i guess. it helps me, i listen to it when i feel sad, but it still hurts and i still wonder why such wonderful people have to die so early but bad people can live to 100. i don't get it some times. that's why i joke around so much

I know...and it also seems sometimes that the good people in this world go unnoticed while the bad, evil and just plain obnoxious types get all the attention.

And I agree - I often listen to Richard's speeches myself whenever I'm feeling kind of stressed out or confused - which happens quite a lot. And I always end up feeling a little better afterwards. Sort of helps get the world back into perspective a bit.
