Definitely a night to remember! I had something of a case of nerves last night, I didn't get to talk to Jane. ::sniff:: But it was very cool to see her and meet Fragglemuppet and MN! I'm sorry I missed a few people, but glad so many got to go.

It was so amazing to have Richard's clips up on the big screen and to hear huge a huge crowd laugh at his work. My father didn't know anything about Richard but left being very intrigued by his story. I'll have to show him the rest of that Don Music clip though; I wonder if they purposely cut out the head banging (though the clip started during the worst of it!).

It was really an unbelievable dream come true that so much tribute was given to Richard that night. You think as a fan you're never going to get the support you desire and then suddenly there it is! When I got my book signed, I told Michael Davis how much I appreciated his segments on Richard. I think he realized how important that was and was very pleased.

As for me, I had a great time! It was so great to see all of those preformers there, although David Rudmond seemed to be missing. Shame, considering the closeness he and Richard shared, but it was still great to see and hear insites from everyone else!
Erin, it was wonderful to meet you and your family! They seem like great people, and a lot of fun to be around! Haralde, it was good to say hi to you as well!
Steve, I'm sorry we didn't get to meet up!
Maybe the next time something comes along, because although it might not be this big, and though it might take a while, I'm sure there will be something! Maybe if you're planning on doing a show somehow focussed around the event, I can at least call in and give my thoughts.
I didn't get to talk to Mrs. Hunt either, but I'm glad you really got to connect with her Erin!

Ugh, we had such a time finding the hotel afterward and then we ordered in and watched TV till 1am. Don't think I ever really got to sleep, lol.

Thanks, guys - it's funny, we'd never met before, but five seconds and we were chatting away like old friends. And some of the friends of the family who came with her wanted to know more about Muppet Central and all that, so I told them about the forum.

Me too; I wondered where David Rudman was. Maybe he had to pull out at the last minute.

The Record did a nice write-up on the event for today's paper; I actually ran into the reporter out in the lobby afterwards, and we chatted for a few seconds.

Yeah, good point. They've already done a few studies on how networking site members interact when they're away from the computer...I wonder what they'd find with us?

About the speech:

Wow...I've said a few times that the second speech is where Richard really gets going, and it shows in the video. He does joke a little bit with the audience, but for the most part we're seeing his more solemn side.

The person who posted the video said that Richard, of all the Muppet performers, seemed to be the calmest and most composed "as if he knew he would be with Jim soon."

I noticed something: with the first speech, he was standing on the brass eagle lectern. This time, he's standing on the marble lectern with the cathedral's insignia on it, the one reserved for the pastor.

You know, I went into New York for the day with my family, to goof off for a few hours before they had to drive home, and we stopped in to visit St. John the Divine. They've finished all the renovations, so it's the first time we've seen the whole cathedral end to end. So we stood in front of the high altar and gazed back at the rose window, and I kept thinking back to Richard's line about "the warmth of the sun, the light as it shines through a piece of colored glass."

And you're right - this was posted the day after the SS crew paid tribute to Richard. Someone up there is listening, don't you think?

It's good to see that Richard merited a few sentences in the review. It's only fair, of course, seeing as he grew up in the Record's coverage area - and how he, Adam and Rachel were paper carriers for the Record while in middle school. (And I still get a grin over how, after Richard started high school and had to end the route, all the customers on the route kept calling Jane and lamenting, "We miss Richard!")

Wow! So Richard is the life of the party even when he is delivering papers!

I don't get the paper, but I would if he were delivering them! It sound to fun...just as fun as watching him preform puppets on TV!

Well, according to Jane, at the homes of some of the older customers, Richard would take the paper right up to their doors instead of pitching it onto their lawns. And then there was the woman who lamented, "My little dog misses your son!"

(I'll bet Strongheart would have been really jealous if he knew that one of his owners was out giving other dogs a scratch behind the ears.)
