Yeah - some of those kids' show hosts of the 50s could be mean-spirited off camera. Did you ever hear the story about that one host, who, when he thought the cameras were off, said "That oughta hold the little (deleted)'s for another week." But the cameras were still rolling...

Anyway...it's true, the book said that Scooter was the most representative of Richard's soul because Scooter's the one running around, trying to keep order backstage - and it's Scooter who's leading everyone off in "Just One Person" during Jim's memorial.

It seems that Richard was a role model for his brother and sisters, and it seems that he was always concerned about security and comfort for his family back home - and this extended to friends, co-workers and even total strangers.

And you're right about the "Tears of a Clown" syndrome; even the most cheerful, witty person has a sad side, since we're all human, and Richard was no exception.

I'll bet that the years in London were really thrilling ones for Richard - after all, there he is, performing major speaking parts on television, after years of doing just right hands on SS. Plus, there's the thrill of getting to travel the world, of course, and getting to meet new people.

This story isn't about Richard but it is in the spirit of him. But when Alison Barlett O'Reilly Who plays Gina on the show first joined the cast. She was telling this story about how "Everyone in the Studio except her was clued in that Marty Robinson and Kevin Clash was going to put her though this sort of Fraternity initiation." She said that" They tortured her while they were shooting. (They were both playing honkers by the way) And she goes on to say that “they were pulling at her knapsack, and honking away in her ear and high-fiving each other." They were tying to see how she would reacted to it, but she says that she is a New Yorker, and that she has been thought a lot worse harassment then that ad that 'Growing up in Brooklyn helped."

Hmmm... I wonder where they would get mischievous behavior like that from… I suppose that thy learned form the best.

I wonder if Alison ever came up with a way to get back at them...

Although, it makes me think of all the hijinks that Dave Goelz and Steve Whitmire pulled on the set of Fraggle Rock - drove Jocelyn Stevenson nearly out of her mind, and she channeled all that into the episode "Scared Silly."

So, naturally, when Dave and Steve got hit with that confetti bomb, there was everyone else laughing their collective heads off, and of course, Richard is leading everyone in the teasing and ribbing. "Now we know who's really afraid of everything!"

Lol, that's so funny, the Sesame teasing lives on!

I love how Dave wasn't adverse to pulling his hijinks on Richard, even though he probably knew he'd regret it later, hehe.

Well, today it's exactly 17 years ago. I'll be watching a lot of Janice, Sweetums, Junior Gorg and his other characters today. As if I didn't watch too much of Richard's work already.
I'm glad his work keeps touching people as it did when he was still here.



Rest in peace, Richard Hunt. Thank you for the laughs, the tears, the help, the inspiration.

Here, we've got a few hours to go - but, it's true. It'll be 17 years ago tomorrow that the Muppet crew lost a brilliant performer and friend - but heaven gained a few more Muppets and many more laughs.

To Richard Hunt, Muppet performer, director, and friend and inspiration to people the world over - we thank you for all the laughs and grins you gave us while you were alive, and for all the laughs and grins you continue to give from the world beyond. God bless you, and may you rest in peace.

I know! I saw a Muppet related comment by this person on another myspace page and he/she had the photo of Richard and the kids as his/her avatar. It was really small but somehow I had a feeling it was of Richard, lol. So I clicked the name and found this. I was like "You're kidding me right? !"

And there's that one photo of Richard posing Scooter on the motorcycle - and the caption says that the bike belonged to Richard.

Is that the photo from the Muppetcast DVD? I definitely want to make that into a poster for something, lol.

I really like the sentiment of the "Great Gettin Up Morning" song at the beginning of the program, sort of what happens at the end of this life and all.

And just wanted to mention my Blog entry again this year, hehe, which I keep finding ways of updating.

Yeah, and it certainly sets the tone for the memorial service ultimately being a happy occasion; I seriously doubt Richard would have wanted any dirges at his memorial...

"Hey, pick up the tempo, will ya? I like a dirge you can dance to!"

And yes, that motorcycle photo's from the MuppetCast DVD; it's hanging on the wall in Richard and Adam's old room, which is now Jane's "everything" room. And I like that one photo of Richard sitting on the edge of the stage facing that huge crowd of kids. (I wonder where that was taken?)

I really liked that poem you posted under Henson People; it really does echo Richard's spirit and outlook on life. And like the speaker in the poem, I believe he'd really want his fans to channel their admiration for him into things and actions that make life a little brighter for other people. After all, how better to remember a generous person than to do acts of generosity for others?
