Happy Halloween, everybody!

Oh yes, children's safety should be the major priority today. Like making sure kids know not to walk into a stranger's house or eat unwrap candy etc. And parents know to be vigilant and not afraid to worry "too much." While still maintaining the fun of course lol.

Btw, last night was "Mischeif Night" and my car got the brunt of it! Lol Guess you can't take it personally!

I don't normally go to Wikipedia, but in this case I know this description of the origins of Halloween is pretty much true:

"The Ancient Gaels believed that on October 31, the boundaries between the worlds of the living and the dead overlapped and the deceased would come back to life and cause havoc such as sickness or damaged crops...Costumes and masks were also worn at the festivals in an attempt to mimic the evil spirits or placate them."

Heh, in my opinion some traditions are best forgotten! I doubt Richard and Jim are out to damaged crops etc. Still, the causing havoc part, that sounds like Richard!

Good point, MN, if I hear about any loud but harmless exposions I'll think of Don! Lol

Yeah! Causing havoc sound like the Muppet's in general and the spirit of Richard living through the Muppet's as well. It's really what they do so well.

Oh, yes, if there's havoc to be wreaked, Jim and Richard and co. would want to be in on it. As long as the havoc doesn't cause someone to get hurt, of course.

As for me, I'm going to go to the annual spooky dinner that the dining halls hold every year, and maybe just stay in and have some cocoa or something. Honestly, a lot of the Halloween festivities aimed at my age group aren't my cup of tea.

Ohhh the spooky dinner thing sounds cool, what do they do? I think I'm going to stay home and watch The Rocky Horror Picture Show with friends, lol. And definitely have some hot chocolate, I've been waiting to do that all year!

But yeah, you can't really do the kiddie stuff anymore. And I have no interest in dressing up and getting drunk at a party or nightclub (though if anyone else wants to that's fine, hehe, just be careful!).

That's very true - and Jim and Richard's characters have frequently been on the receiving end of a pork chop.

About the dinner...well, let's see - the dining hall's rigged up with all the usual spooky decorations, there's a PA system playing the usual seasonal favorites, and the cooks prepare a huge series of dishes to choose from, and the dishes have all been given spooky names. And of course, the dessert selection is fairly abundant at this thing. If people show up in costumes, they're eligible for a prize drawing. It's more aimed at the fun side of Halloween.

I agree - having too much to drink is no way to celebrate the 31st.

Sounds coo! And yeah! People drinking? That just sounds really dumb to me. I could never hand out in places like that and do that either.

Hehe yes, hence your signature there!

That sounds great actually. Of course I'm one of those annoying people who really loves holidays and has to decorate and inspire the whole world, lol. As Kermit once said, "Life would just pass in a blur if it weren't for times like this."

Well said! :halo: (Don't know why I picked Animal though lol)

Aw. That really is a great quote and so true, too.

And I agree, partying is not really my style in general anyway, but definitely not drinking. Never done it before and don't ever really plan to, LOL! Not my style either.

Anyway, I hope everyone has fan and has a good time today!

Oh, yeah - and since it's just once a year, that makes it all the more fun.

The problem is, Halloween parties aimed at our generation put less emphasis on Halloween and more emphasis on "party." And I mean party in the libertine sense, with the boozing and the risque costumes and all that. That's not at all my cup of tea.

I'd much rather see a big bowl of punch, plates of cookies and sweets, a few pumpkins, some maize and some ghosts set around here and there for decor...and some decent spooks, of course.
