Hi... Thought I'd pop back in as an infrequent supporter of Richard's... Well, he and this club are the brothers to my main man Jerry and the JNC, but anyway...

The Muppet Comics that were to be featured in the Disney Adventure magazines got scrapped when the mag itself got cancelled by the publishers, the last issue is the one for November 2007 currently available. Only one of the three drawn Muppet comics made it into the pages... This one showcases Fozzie's comedy act with a new dummy named Shmedly. As the story develops, the prop catches fire, and a certain go-getter gofer comes in to put out Fozzie's smokin' new act.
Maybe you guys can find it and tel us more about the comic insert.

Hi again! Thanks for the info, I actually managed to find the famous new November 2007. I immediately put it away in a scrap book, since it may be worth something someday!

Your description of the comic was pretty accurate. It's pretty simple, here's the description I put on another thread:

The top of the comic says "Ladies and Gentlemen! Boys and Girls! It's that Master of Mirth, that Guru of Gags...Fozzie Bear!

Panel #1: "A Funny Bear" Fozzies comes on stage with a dummy; a sign says 'Presenting Fozzie Bear and his pal Smedley!'

Panel # 2: "A Dismal Pair" Statler and Waldorf look less than pleased

Panel #3: "A Talent Rare" Fozzie with dummy going 'Glah, glah, glah, glah!'

Panel #4: "An Icy Stare" (from Statler and Waldorf of course!)

Panel #5: "A Sudden Flare" Fozzie's dummy suddenly catches fire and Scooter runs out with bucket of water!

Panel #6: "Life's so Fair!" Statler and Waldorf laugh as Fozzie stands there drenched! Lol

Looks like Muppet Wiki put up a couple of photos:

I think it's awesome that they included Scooter in the first issue! That proves to me the creator was serious about this and really wanted to do the Muppet justice. It is rotten luck that the magazine has been cancelled (for everyone involved I'm sure!). Personally, I think Disney should concentrate more on putting these things on the Web. Everyone keeps saying magazines are on the way out. People unfortunately don't read as much and the Internet is faster.

Ooh! haven't seen the comics but it looks great! Too bad it got canceled though.

You know? Being Green really related to Jim and how he felt personally. But I think that it was kind of made to be interpreted in a few ways so that anyone could relate to it.

I couldn't imagine what females go through every day with the pressure to be someone your not or to look like something you aren't. I do to an extent, but I think females have it so much harder in the area of looks in so many ways and aspects. I also think it's the same way with material things in general with in a lot of ways. Like if you don't have to latest this or the latest version of that they you're not with everybody else. I mean modern day society has the "self help" trend going on right now that say that getting a make over and not being appreciative of what you have it the answer to everything. Oh course that the wrong way to go about things. It's funny how people will go into debt just to get keep up with the latest designer so and such. I mean self help is no more then someone else telling you how to love your own life, LOL! And then they say pay them more of your hard earned money to buy there next book to get the secrets that they didn't give you in the last one to the road to self help, LOL! but I really think it's so important to except people the way they are and not try to Chang them.

I do know what you mean Erin, my grand parents are so big on recycling.

I think what people don't realize is that it's a balance. The main priority is to love yourself of course. But loving yourself also means caring enough to occasionally improve yourself. The thing is, the main reasons to improve yourself shouldn't be your looks and your possessions. It should be your compassion, your health, and your skills that can be beneficial to the world.

Exactly. And the balance is pretty important. The balance between changing your looks because you'd like to or to impress others is pretty important as well. Sometimes changing your looks can change who you are inside, possibly more confident, even if it's for a really strange reason, like your hair is up instead of down.

Anyway I got sidetracked. I came to ask if anyone has ever been to the site of Jim and Richard's memorial service. I ended up accidentally going to the Cathedral for St. John the Divine in New York, and it was pretty heavy stuff when I realized just where I was.

I've been near St. John the Divine, but I've not actually gone inside. But it's something I've been meaning to do for a little bit.

Yes - it's important to eat your fruits and vegetables, drink lots of water, get plenty of exercise and get a good night's sleep. And if you modify your looks to feel more confident, that's okay. But if it's just to fulfill other's whims, then that's kind of meaningless.

Holy cow...I just heard this from my mom:

You guys, I'm sure, know all about those killer wildfires out in California...one of my uncles lives near San Diego with his family, and the fire just barely missed them. Everyone's okay, thank heavens, but they were all set to evacuate.

Oh thank goodness the fire missed them, it's just awful. I wonder if they've figured out what caused it (natural or man made; for awhile some thought it was power lines but no one was sure).

I've never seen St. John, was it impressive looking? It is in the style of the classic elaborate cathedrals.

Actually I did see the Cabrini Hospice a long, long time ago (the place where Richard passed away), which is also pretty heavy to think of. The institution has a very impressive history:

You're right, Meep, looking better can sometimes make you feel better and there's nothing wrong with that. In the end, you have to make sure you are changing yourself for the right reason. Think of what Danny said to Stephanie on Full House:

"Why do you want your ears pierced?"

"Because all my friends have them!"

"I see, so you want to be an individual so you can be exactly like your friends?'

"Uhh..."

"Let me ask you a question. If your friends didn't have their ears pierced, would you still want to?"

"Uh maybe...I don't know, is this a trick question?"

Lol Good old early to mid '90s TV, you never fail me.

And also remember the most important thing is the kind of person you are. Mother Cabrini cared about the health conditions of immigrants when no one else would. And today her hospital is still thriving.

Oh wow, I'm really glad that your family out there is ok, Erin. Talk about scary! I can't even imagine what it must be like to be close to that.

No, I've never been to the Cathedral for St. John the Divine. That must have been pretty amazing. I think it's great that you got to go there and take it in, MBM!

Thank you for the information on Cabrini Hospice, heralde. Wow. What an impressive place. Very interesting, and it really is something that you got to go there. It's kind of incredible to think about the different places where these things took place...

Lol, and heralde... the Full House episode that part is from has always been one of my absolute favorites! I adore that scene, too. Danny's line, "So you want to be an individual so you can be exactly like your friends?" really sums it up... kids (and people, in general) want to be unique, yet they want to be accepted as well. That's a really tough dilemma for some people.

I actually recently saw a quote that said: "Always be yourself. Because the people that matter don't mind, and the people that do mind don't matter." Common quote, I think, yet I'm not sure I'd ever heard it before... but I absolutely loved it. And I gotta say, I hear some of good ol' Richard in a quote like that, too!

Thanks, guys. Under other circumstances, I'd be tempted to ask them if anyone brought the marshmallows, but seeing how bad this fire is, that'd probably be a joke in poor taste.

And heralde - it might be a series of natural wildfires, but I hear they arrested some guy who tried to start a fire on the freeway (I think it was near San Bernadino) this morning. You never know. I remember that one set of fires in Colorado several years ago was the result of arson.

Ah, yes, Frances Xavier Cabrini. Patron saint of immigrants and hospital workers, and one of the first 20th century saints to be canonized. I believe she was also the first Italian-American saint to be canonized as well. And it sounds like the Cabrini Hospice is an excellent facility, so Richard would have been in good hands.

My mother explained to me that hospices are intended to keep terminally ill patients out of hospitals, so they can be with their families and friends and be less at risk for various infections.

Erin, I glad to hear that you uncle and his family are safe, too. And what a nice hospital that must be, too!

I think what people don't realize is that it's a balance. The main priority is to love yourself of course. But loving yourself also means caring enough to occasionally improve yourself. The thing is, the main reasons to improve yourself shouldn't be your looks and your possessions. I agree that's it's about balance and that you do have to love yourself. And like you said, the things that you should improve on all have to do with helping and caring about other people and putting other people before, above and beyond your own needs. I know it's not always easy, but it does start with what in your heart. You know? Not greed or selfish gain or anything like that. Not saying you shouldn't care about your self or that you don't matter or anything. It's like Fred Rogers says, it about taking responsibility for yourself and your own actions, but were all also responsible for each other as well. It's easy to say well, It's not my child, it's not my problem and take the easy way out, you know? It's about being a responsible citizen. But this would would be in such better shape if more people took the time to care about someone else other then themselves, you know?

Yeah, nothing wrong with makeup or anything like this. It's just it's not the most important thing in life among so many other things. You can't let things rule you and you can't let other people rule you about those things either.
